Woo! Only a hundred-plus days until pitchers & catchers report! CAN YOU DIG IT!

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 16 November 2002 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I get this picture of David R. sitting in a grimy bedsit somewhere surrounded by baseball memorabilia watching 'hot action!' via World Series tapes. It's not a pretty thought.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 November 2002 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not pretty doing it, either, lemme tell ya.

David R. (popshots75`), Saturday, 16 November 2002 22:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Tejada, Lidle, and Long for Griffey Jr. and Kearns. Resign Durham, put him at second and Ellis at short. Koch for Durazo. This team would rule!

Kris (aqueduct), Sunday, 17 November 2002 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't believe the rockies have found someone stupid enough to take mike hampton away.

keith (keithmcl), Sunday, 17 November 2002 03:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Um, OK. So, um, this Mike Hampton thing:

- Colorado gets two guys that'll EAT UP the thin air in Rockyville (mark Preston Wilson down for 45-50 HRs and 4X as many Ks), and they lose the Kile-esque millstone that Hampton turned out to be (as if anyone could've guessed that Denny Neagle would turn out to be the better of the two last year at 10/12ths the cost - pshyeah) (and by Kile-esque, of course I'm referring to the late Mr. Kile's awful showing in Denver after his free agent signing a while back). Oh, but of course, to offset the dubious sluggo-type production Mookie Jr. offered the Fish, they receive the dubious Otis-Nixon-type productive skillz of one Juan Pierre. Yeah, sure. Oh - and the Rockies rec'd a lefty reliever & a 2nd base prospect. Calling Jose Ortiz! Hello! Wake up! You're IN Colorado! Hit already!

- THEN the Marlin turns around and ships Hampton off to their interdivisional rival (you know, those boring 1st place Brave fuckers) for Tim Spooneybarger & some other guy. And this is with the usually cash-strapped Marlins paying said Braves $30 million over the next three years? Huh? Unless they're thinking that Hampton is going to sabotage the Good Ship Mazzone, I'm really starting to wonder about what the hell Jeff Loria & Co. are really doing with Florida (besides fixing things so more Floridians will actually CHOOSE to attend Devil Ray games). Hampton in the midst of the burgeoning greatness of Josh Beckett, Brad Penny, and A.J. Burnett in the hitter's dead zone that is the Marlins' shitty home field = a thing of beauty and wonder to consider. But, alas.

Note to Bud Selig - PLEEEEEEEEASE let the Expos play some games at Fenway Park. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 18 November 2002 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

And now the Rockies are gonna trade LARRY WALKER for Matt Williams & Erubiel Durazo? WTF? Is having one of the best outfielders to ever play the game (Mile High Division, or any other division) such a burden that you need to shed that "dead weight" for yet another 1st baseman & an over-the-hill third bagger w/ knees of Velveeta? Is it?

The lack of love for this thread is quite disquieting.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 16:07 (twenty-two years ago)

It's too painful, David. Sox in off-season = Sox in the regular season. Choke daddies. The mere fact that they're going after Contreras makes me want to turn away and contemplate lesser diversions.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

wow, do our football [soccer, if you must] threads make this little sense to you?

i kinda got into the baseball for the playoffs and world series for the second year in a row, but the time difference (and the fact it's only on on a sunday and wednesday nights (starting at midnight if we're lucky)) makes getting past the second or third innings a bit of a trial.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Steve, you'll be happy to note that A) yes, the football threads are this confounding, B) baseball is often confounding to its fans as well as newcomers, and C) it's often hard for most FANS to make it through a couple of innings unless there's some sort of between-pitch distraction occupying said fans.

Call me crazy, but the playoffs are the least exciting portion of the season for me. But, then, like Tracer, I'm a Sox fan - of COURSE the playoffs don't excite me.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Why Red Sox Fans Should Have The Fear (Removed From Context) (Borrowed From This Place):

"Allard Baird seems like a very sharp kind of guy to me."
--Bill James, Red Sox consultant and former assistant to the Kansas City Royals

"I don't think I will ever see a player who was hurt more (by a trade) than Neifi. He felt so much a part of Colorado, and when he was dealt it hit him hard."
--Allard Baird, Royals general manager

For those not in the know, The Fear is an irrational construct fabricated by those in charge of the Red Sox Nation, wherein a poorly-placed sneeze, an untucked shirt, or a questionable quote by an otherwise seemingly infallible baseball mind, coupled with damning evidence that contradicts the quote's premise, can lead to apocryphal prophecies of yet another failed baseball campaign.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Trading Larry Walker is not a bad idea. The man's half dead! And Durazo's gonna be a stud (plus don't forget about Helton's back troubles).

Yancey (ystrickler), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
kudos to Billy Beane.

And good riddance to Hundley, although why the Cubs have to waste roster space on deadbeats like Grudzelaniek and Karros is a myster.

I am enjoying Roger Angell's collection of essays, The Summer Game, right now. I've been the the bating cages twice and am trying to improve in the offseason.

Now my question to DaveR is ARE YOU GOING TO LET ME HAVE THAT &*(%^&^$*^%#@~ ROTO TEAM YOU OFFERED ME OR WHAT??????

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Felicity! No need to air out our dirty laundry in public, madam, but, for the record, the commish is still recovering from his rotisserie football victory, and while I'm TRYING to get him jazzed for b-ball season, he needs a bit of recovery time before he can function again. And then we need to "discuss" the particulars. Hit me in the Inbox if you have more questions, Ms. R.

And CLEARLY the Cubs want to give Bobby Hill & Hee Sop Choi more seasoning in the minors so Billy Beane can scoop them up in the offseason next year for a plate of nachos and a 6-pack of Zima. If Dusty Baker gives either of those chumps 300+ ABs w/out a good reason (injury, act of god, the juvenation machine), I'd call in Amnesty Int'l.

And I'm so upset I missed out on blabbing about all the super-cool free agent action. The Mets vaguely improving, the Phillies getting supersized, the A's doing their usual smoke & mirrors hand jive, the Red Sox & Yankees warring over unproven 30-year-old pitchers, etc etc. I'm especially superkeen on keeping tabs on Steinbrenner's continuing quest to drown the Yankees in overpriced "talent". You can never have too many proven starting pitchers, George, remember that.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 05:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I miss the days when the Blue Jays were actually good. Still its funny how 15,000 Argos (Canadian Football team) fans can be louder in the skydome then 52,000 Blue Jays fans were even when there was something to cheer about.
Of course, Maple Leaf Gardens (RIP) was deafening at times.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 05:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey now, Mr. N. They get a 2nd pitcher behind Halladay, they'll be A-OK. ESPECIALLY with that ridiculous lineup of theirs - Phelps, Wells, and Hinske are very, very, very, VERY nice to have around Mr. Delgado (ideally, the all-fields .320 version, not the pull-happy .250 version) & Mr. Stewart (ideally, the healthy & happy version).

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

But post strike, no one in Canada cares, not in Montreal and not in Toronto. Rich forgien kids trotting around a park with horrible food and water overpriced beer just isnt fun unless your work is paying for it. The Jays are a little better in past years as Delgado is filling the public imagination like Joe Carter did in his brief but memoriable stay. Hinske will be very very good though I have no clue how long he will stay in TO, they all sign deals elsewhere after they come into bloom.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 31 December 2002 06:02 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my goodness! Al Levine, my favorite Jewish Chicagoland-bred right-handed career bullpenner, has just been signed to the Cardinals.

I am filled with mixed emotions. I love Al and am grateful that he'll be playing another year, but the Cardinals are my sworn blood enemies. Actually seeing Levine in a Cards cap is going to cause acute vertigo come April.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 3 January 2003 05:42 (twenty-two years ago)

. . . and Jeremy Fikac to the A's. Nice pickup -- he can set up Koch. Thank god the Angels won last year, 2003 is definitely looking like the A's year.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 3 January 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

The small bears got one of ours, and Veres ain't a bad Gentile to have around come the eigth inning.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 3 January 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

You mean Keith Foulke, Felicity! Billy Beane shipped Koch out to the White Sox for Mr. Foulke (inexplicably put into the Mop Up Dog House by Jerry Manuel, the goof) & some other stuff. (See here.)

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 3 January 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

omigod that's awesome! I love Billy Koch for the White $OX, and I find Keith "I do not like baseball and I only play because the money is good and I get a good high when I pitch" Foulke hilarious.

Wow do I miss Baseball Weekly.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 3 January 2003 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Foulke was in the Mop Up Dog House as a rehab because he was blowing lots of saves towards the end of the year. What's inexplicable is that ESPN refers to Alfonseca as a "closer," as in, "Cubs re-sign 'closer' Antonio Alfonseca."

DaveR, what's the scoop on Rod Beck? Should I be excited? I am pretty happy about Remligner and Veres, and that the Cards took Losing Pitcher Fassero, now if we can just find a sucker to take Farnsworth.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 3 January 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I thought the Sox got Beck FROM the Cubs?!? He was there for a couple of years for Chitown - had one good year, and one shittay partial season w/ the Cubs, at which point the Sox liberated him from his bounds (either the Cubs' bullpen or the waiver wire), where he pitched all right @ times, when he wasn't hurt, which happened way too often. His last year @ Fenway, I remember experiencing The Fear when he'd enter a game w/ guys on base - of course, he'd leave & El Guapo would come in, and then The Fear would grip my heart like a fully articulated Kenner action figure wielding a light saber.

However, according to this page, he didn't play @ all last year, which might mean he's well-rested. Or it means he toiled in the minors. (Here're his adjusted career stats - boy, he DID stink for the Cubs!)

Half-ass analysis - seems to be homer-prone, doesn't have as good a fastball as he did prior to his 46 elbow injuries, fierce Fu Manchu, as lithe as a gout-ridden David Wells, possibly best used sporadically for 1 or 2 batters if the matchups are good, and never on consecutive days, if at all possible. Sign Rich Garces or John "Hot Plate" Williams or Oliver Miller to take attention away from Beck's largess.

Questions for Felicity -
1) WHY did the Cubs offer Alfonseca a contract?
2) Wasn't Farnsworth all sorts of injured last year?
3) Who's the Cubbie pitching coach?

PS - The truth (sorta) about Foulke's supposed ineptitude.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 3 January 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

PS - Mr. Noodles, I'm pretty sure that Hinske will be w/ the Blue Jays for at least another 3-4 years. He'll go through arbitration in 2005 or 2006 - I'm not up on how baseball contracts work re: rookie-type players - but I'm pretty sure that he'll be in Toronto until 2008. That is, Toronto will have exclusive rights to him until 2008.

There's some 6-year limit re: major league service time & free agency - that is, once a rookie player has played 6 years for an organization on the major league level, he is eligible to file for free agency. I know, for instance, that Seattle giving Alex Rodriguez some meaningless cups of coffee in 1994 (only 54 at-bats!) made him a free agent one year earlier than was necessary. D to the OH!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 3 January 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

That should've been a PPS to the Noodle - sorry.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 3 January 2003 22:05 (twenty-two years ago)

DaveR, those questions are rhetorical, right? In case you're not joking

1. Because they're idiots.
2. yes, steriod-boy broke his ankle throwing warm-up pitches.
3. What, isn't it Larry Rothschild?

Yes Beck was a former Cub, the reason he was out is that he had Tommy John surgery, I think.

felicity (felicity), Friday, 3 January 2003 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

but alfonseca has six fingers on each hand, that is sure to bring the fans in.

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 4 January 2003 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

unfortunately, we rarely get to see the team doing the high fives/sixes after handing Alfonseco the ball.

as if Cubs fans needed any more reason to get plastered at Wrigley on a sunnny weekday afternoon, sigh.

felicity (felicity), Saturday, 4 January 2003 02:48 (twenty-two years ago)

My goodness, the Doggers are looking awful.

My dream is that Karros has a comeback year and that the Cubs sign Orosco to a minor league contract and bring him up to strike out folks like McGriff during the pennant races when all the young whippersnapper situational lefties are out of gas. I love Jesse the Fossil.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 13 January 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought this thread was about doing blades. what a screw.

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Monday, 13 January 2003 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

this is the year the cubs burn out mark pryor isn't it?

keith (keithmcl), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

That was last year. This year it can be Jason Jenning's turn.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Dusty Baker HAS to cockblock Hee Sop Choi. After giving Damon Minor the high-hat in last year's World Series run, it's a given he'll go w/ Eddie Gaedel's bones before giving an "unproven" kid a chance to Wally Pip some crusty veteran. (Gosh, I love making ludicrous statements.)

Paul Wilson just signed w/ the Reds - VERY interesting, especially given the reputation of pitching coach Don Gullet. It'll be nice to see folks from Tampa Bay's pitching staff (STARTING pitching staff, that is) go off and perform well for decent teams. (Go Tanyon!)

And why the hell is Kevin Millar signed to play for a Japanese team this year, when at least 10 teams (+/- 8) could easily use 500 of his productive-Matt-Stairs-esque at-bats in 2003?

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 02:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Not so fast . . . Dusty, unlike the other DB, actually seems to want to win. I think he'll play whoever is doing better, or whoever Sosa tells him to play. That reminds me, I have to check out Alou's status for next year, I forget for how long they committed to overpaying him.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 02:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave R yr comments upthread about Florida's pitching are spot-on. That's where Hee Seop's going circa 2005, at which point, with a couple of prospects, the Marlins will have evolved from a very interesting young team to a pretty savage group of (relatively speaking) underpaid players doing everything they can to work their numbers high enough to get traded to marquee teams.

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

John, you're unfortunately assuming that the two-headed Jeffmonster (manager Torborg & owner Loria) won't totally bungle the greatness they (well, Loria) bought by overpitching those poor kids. Brad Penny's already developing issues (yeesh), & Burnett had some setbacks, & if Mr. T. keeps on throwing those guys out there for 130+ pitch gutfests in April & May, Beckett won't be too far behind (& he's already had some trouble, hasn't he?) (Oh, man, and it's not like Mark Redman needs more time on the DL.) It'd be a shame for Mike Lowell to suffer such dire straits (though his alternate career path - becoming a Yankee great - doesn't really jive with my Fenway fetish; you stay in that nice National League & put up your .290-35-110 lines hitting against those snotty Metropolitans & those nasty Native Americans, Mr. Lowell.)

Taking Sides: Jung Bong VS Stubby Clapp VS So Taguchi (for Best Baseball Name - 2000-2003)

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 07:37 (twenty-two years ago)

you forgot Coco Crisp

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 13:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Boof Bonser vs. Johan Santana

Kris (aqueduct), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave R you got good taste in picking teams to dislike :-)

I think Burnett's young enough that he can put up with a little overuse. Hadn't read the Penney bit & it surprises me: the Reds are such a disaster area that you'd think Penny's several shutouts early in the season would be enough for them. You're right though yes you're right: managed well, the Marlins would have contended last year with the rotation they had.

Despite an almost irresistible attraction to the name "Jung Bong," I think I gotta go with the classic baseball grebtness of "Stubby Clapp." He needs to be on the same team as Alfonseca, whether or not the name "Stubby" actually refers to some physical abnormality.

TS: Six-fingered pitchers or Four-fingered pitchers?

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Three Finger Brown or Jim Abbott?

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

what the hell is going on here? it appears to be about baseball, but it might as well be in another language ...

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

see here, we don't barge in on your "music" threads and

. . . um, nevermind

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 14 January 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Salmon I'm wondering the same thing - I've followed baseball pretty intensely the past couple years, but my interest in any sport usually ends when the season does. Apparently these guys all subscibe to "Minor League Off-Season Baseball Weekly" or something. Of course I'm insanely jealous of all of them.

John (jdahlem), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 00:26 (twenty-two years ago)

jason jennings? i am more concerned about learning the name of anyone on the tigers staff. alan trammel should be in the hall of fame already but if he manages 70 wins he should have his own wing.

keith (keithmcl), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

and besides the rockies are going back to trying to outscore everyone having decided that no one can pitch here. maybe if jennings throws his arm out we will get rid of clint hurdle and his folksisms. the rockies are the only local team i have paid attention to although it is nice to see griese break everyone's heart here. i can look at my photo of joey harrington on my desk knowing how much worse it could be for the lions.

keith (keithmcl), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 02:58 (twenty-two years ago)

(My poor red birds' hopes are tied to Tawny Kitaen's marital dysfunction.)

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Would Griese break everybody's heart by staying or by going?

Anyhow, whoever gets Colon wins the East next year unless it's not the Yankees

James Blount, Wednesday, 15 January 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, that'd be a neat trick, the White Sox winning a division besides their own. Hyuck hyuck. But a healthy Colon w/ Mark Buerhle (sic) = actual competition for the Twinkies. I'd be happier w/ the White Sox improving themselves IF A) GM Ken Williams didn't make that dopey Todd Ritchie trade last year and B) Hawk Harrelson could simply SHUT THE #@!$ UP.

(And they lost Ritchie to free agency! The dinks! It's a blessing in disguise, sure, but, geez.)

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Your happiness must then be permanently deferred, Mr. R. -- Hawk Harrelson's decomposing remains will still be shouting "You cannnnnn putitontheboooaaaard, yes!" some ten years after they've buried him.

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Wednesday, 15 January 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I want David R. and John D. to be the new play by play announcers for any game I watch from here on in, should I watch any. Kris and Felicity are the color commentators, natch.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 January 2003 01:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I want to be the baseline bunny, a la the NFL, who asks the managers annoying questions at tense moments in the game.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 16 January 2003 02:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Time for that new sports superstation ILXBC, then.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 16 January 2003 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

elvis grbac might come here now, quite a qb battle brewing there.

keith (keithmcl), Thursday, 16 January 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

(I call hockey. I want to say "put the biscuit in the basket" at least once.)

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 16 January 2003 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"Our pointers point and our plummers plum."

bnw, did I get that right?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 16 January 2003 04:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Almost. It's "Yeah, as long as our painters paint and our plumbers plum, we should be allright." Also acceptabe "muckers muck" and "grinders grind." Or "if we can poot the puck in the net more times then them, we should have a pretty good chance of winning this thing."

(I also love when they talk trash. The Blues agitator/troublemaker Tyson Nash after the skilled and gritty but not much of a fighter Stevie Yzerman jumped him: "I didn't know what was going on out there. Was someone hitting me with a pillow?")

bnw (bnw), Thursday, 16 January 2003 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"Scratch my back with a hacksaw!" I think I actually pulled that li'l nugget out whilst playing NHL on the Playstation - oh, it was glorious.

Favorite hockey thing ever = "Hey, Koharski, have another donut, you fat fuck!" If only I could remember who said that. Also - seeing PJ Stock (Bruin goon) & some Capital goon beat the snot out of each other for a good 30 seconds last year. ("This is the best hockey fight I've ever seen!" - Steve Levy, ESPN.)

But I digress.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 16 January 2003 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw replays of that hockey fight about 6 times . I'm not sure if it was as good as the Weaver-Sweeny baseball fight; that was major. The best baseball fight of that year, however, was definitely Vizquel-Rhodes.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 16 January 2003 07:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, the Vizquel-Rhodes fight had more pizazz, more sparkle.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 16 January 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a dazzling altercation.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 16 January 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

it was jim schoenfeld.
i don't recall him saying fat f**K, just kept screaming have another donut.
best hockey fight ever --

The Ice Storm
The Scene: Detroit v. Pittsburgh, Feb. 4, 1994.
The Opponent: Enforcer Marty McSorley.
The Action: The ensuing fisticuffs last longer than most Fox sitcoms — an excruciating one and a half minutes. The pair exchange punches by the dozen. In the early going, Probert batters McSorley until his face resembles ground chuck. Thirty seconds into the fight, he knocks McSorley to the ice, but the Penguin gamely gets up and takes his medicine for another full minute. When officials try to put an end to what becomes one of the fiercest fights in NHL history, McSorley valiantly growls, “Leave us alone.” Hockey’s answer to the Thrilla in Manila establishes Probert as one of the greatest fighters of all time.
The Outcome: Probert, by decision.

Go White Sox.

Tim Spooneybarger and Todd Hollandsworth are on the same team now! They have the longest names in MLB. Torberg should package them and trade to the Twins. Haha, the Marlins.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked when Colorado was like the all-Todd team. Their starters included Todd Walker, Todd Hollandsworth, Todd Helton, and I think there's another I'm forgetting.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 4 March 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

they had todd jones in the bullpen.

keith (keithmcl), Wednesday, 5 March 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Who will get the start at first base in Oakland? Fan fave Scott Hatteberg or Erubiel Durazo, spreading the forbidden gospel of walks and power?

I pick the A's to win the AL in 2003. Hmm, will it be the Astros' year to win the NL at last? I think not. I am not sure who will, though.

I actually saw Levine in the red cap on Sunday and I was okay with it. I'm used to the red from the Angels from last year.

More strange was seeing Joe Girardi is catching for St. Louis! I love Joltless Joe, it was so sad when he was choking up making the Darry Kile announcement last year.

six months pass...
unfortunately, we rarely get to see the team doing the high fives/sixes after handing Alfonseco the ball.

Sweet crap, I was sort of on point for most of this thread. How in the hell do both my fantasy teams suck ass?

I cannot bear to watch the Cards mail it in anymore. A fact only made worse by Cubby Lofton and his small bear brigade! Thank God/#99 that its almost time to drop the puck again.

I approve of new Cubbies "Screaming" LaTroy Hawkins and Derrick Lee.

Goodbye Kenny Lofton, we hardly knew you.
