Electric Sound of Jim, Ian Spack and Kate, I expect you to contribute. Will you follow in Marcello's footsteps?

Me, I will kill myself.

I can see myself walking the streets, bedraggled and wild eyed, screaming "I used to be in a band you know" to anyone who looked in my direction.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 17 November 2002 23:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a pop career?

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Sunday, 17 November 2002 23:56 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't have anything approaching a pop career but I do have a label/fanzine/clubnight in the offing. This will certainly fail and when it does I want to be Patrick Bateman but without the killing. And maybe a wife. Yeah, I'd like a wife.

Ian SPACK (Ian SPACK), Monday, 18 November 2002 00:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I can see myself walking the streets, bedraggled and wild eyed, screaming "I used to be in a band you know" to anyone who looked in my direction.

I remember boarding a no. 35 bus in Brixton some time in the early 1980s and sitting down next to a man who peered at the snare drum (in case) I was carrying and said something like: 'do you need a guitarist? I used to be in a band...you might have heard of them...we were called the Four Pennies'. I said something polite and non-committal in response but was thinking to myself 'keep away from me you weird middle-aged man'. Then one day you realise you've become something similar, except not quite you understand.

David (David), Monday, 18 November 2002 01:08 (twenty-three years ago)

The fact that I am 43, have a horrible voice and no musical skill or expertise or sex appeal, and am making no efforts to ever write or make any music hasn't dimmed my hopes of becoming a pop star any day now.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 November 2002 01:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Shoot Andy Warhol.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 18 November 2002 01:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Shrivel into a pile of ashes naturally. Everyday I wonder how kidding I am when I say this.

Honda (Honda), Monday, 18 November 2002 01:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I suppose I'm a failed popstar. I was thinking of becoming a serial killer, starting with everyone that's been unkind to me, but oh, the agony of choice...

Dickon Edwards (Dickon Edwards), Monday, 18 November 2002 03:12 (twenty-three years ago)

appear in honcho shot by bruce le bruce, sing bad covers of chuck beery and remake myself for the la nostalgia circuit.

anthony easton (anthony), Monday, 18 November 2002 03:18 (twenty-three years ago)

writer / historian / smallholder / traveller / eccentric

enough to be getting on with, but the songwriting and the ideas are what consume me at the moment. I honestly don't care if it fails; at least I'll have let the public know about my creativity (at least there is a definite interest in some of my theories and concepts right now - five years ago I would have been doomed from the start).

robin carmody (robin carmody), Monday, 18 November 2002 04:38 (twenty-three years ago)

"I see your petrified skull, labeled and resting a shelf somehwere"

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Monday, 18 November 2002 04:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Aaron, I do sometimes worry that that might be my skull, well before my time comes. not being able to bring oneself to care about anything other than songwriting has that effect.

robin carmody (robin carmody), Monday, 18 November 2002 05:48 (twenty-three years ago)

In 20 years after my death I shall be worshipped as a legend. Such is "our" fate.

Mike Hanle y (mike), Monday, 18 November 2002 06:34 (twenty-three years ago)

3. become a full-time dreamer like Carsmile
4. become a mentor for the next generation of failing pop stars
5. publish my diaries right before my death
6. become one of those celebrities associated with rock stars & artists but nobody really knows why because they aren't one themselves
7. become a totally obsessive fan of another pop band and follow them around
8. work in a small guitar store and covet all the merchandise
9. put out a 'best of' even though I never really released an album on a label and hope someone discovers it and thinks it has Nuggets potential
10. make babies (not sure about this one)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 18 November 2002 15:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, the wonders of Random.

Someone asked me a question and I never replied.

The answer is plain: become a Pop Svengali. It's clearly the way forward.

three months pass...
Is it wrong not to want a career?? You know, just have an okay job that levels out with not much responsibility? Without really great renumeration?

Obviously, I know the answer, but it's hard to convince the world.

jel --, Thursday, 22 February 2007 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

I have a friend who used to go on at me about how I didn't have any ambition and I should have some, and I pointed out to her that my ambition is to read a lot of books and live by the sea and have a job that doesn't hassle me much. And, like any ambitious person, I have things I'm prepared to give up in order for that to happen. Money, for one thing.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 22 February 2007 18:57 (nineteen years ago)

Cool! That's a worthy ambition!!

jel --, Thursday, 22 February 2007 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

jel do you mean careers in general or pop careers as this thread has stated?

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, careers in general!

I'm still certain of my pop career success, even though I'm approaching Pollard age.

jel --, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:31 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, the Pop Svengali thing is working out OK.

The thing I never actually considered was... sell out, go and work in banking, use my mathematical skillz for EVIL and earn shed-loads of cash. I suppose that's kind of working out OK, too.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 23 February 2007 10:45 (nineteen years ago)

What pop career?

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 23 February 2007 10:51 (nineteen years ago)
