pink zones in scanners

Why is my computer's scanner putting these large rectangular regions of any scan in these pink shades, and how do I get rid of them? Keep in mind this was a $60 scanner I got over a year ago. Do scanners "go bad" this quickly? (this is a UMAX astra 3400)

Do you have photoshop? You can use that to take out certain color shades from sections of pictures.

Yes I do, but often the pictures come out partially pink, partially not. There are pink "zones" on my scanner, and I often have to strategically scan pictures within the clear zone, such that I digitally piece them together later. Pain in the ass in all cases. goddamn you, you stupid UMAX SCANNER!

Is it pink stripes down the length of the scanner, or what shape are they? Can you post an example?

Here's a scan at around 300 dpi, brightness at 0 (average), contrast at 0 (average). I reduce the pic to about 20% so it can fit here...

maybe the scanning action isn't smooth and consistent anymore, therefore slowing down and "overexposing" certain zones, hence the pink?

You just need an adjustment layer superimposed over the pink bit... then in that layer, drag the red way down, and fiddle around a bit, until the pink underneath disappears.

Its pink because you are using it femininely. You need to rough it up a bit. Bite it
