thank u Aimless, I mostly started this thread for Tracer Hand who just got COVID for the 2nd time this week, and all the people I know who've had close ones commit suicide, etc. just awful stories all around, worse than usual.

boxedjoy's top ten absolute shit of 2021:

1) anti-vaxxers
2) bad politicians
3) being made redundant
4) trying to navigate the benefits system to sign on while redundant
5) spending more of my redundancy pay-out faster than I anticipated
6) ignoring the red flags of a terrible job interview, accepting a job, then leaving after six weeks
7) getting a better job offer rescinded because of an admin error that nobody seems to want to fix
8) my partner's mental health being eroded to crisis point by everything
9) getting a kidney stone in the last week of November, thinking it was *just* a sore stomach and the agony/fear it caused me
10) having surgery to remove the stone, only for the surgery to not work and leave my body in a mess with the stone joined by a stent, and the necessary second operation looking likely to be postponed thanks to Omicron fears

yes getting the stent out under local anaesthetic with a day's notice was awful, my stress and anxiety levels were through the roof and the procedure was horrific and I'm so glad this shitty year is coming to an end

Was meant to be going home for a few days after Christmas and now I’m not. 2021 can get fucked.

I think I'm fine, it was low speed (I had stopped) but will keep a watch out for minor women's whiplash... just pissed off that it happened. wasn't my fault and have dashcam at least. grargh.

2021, you can eat a gigantic bowl of shit. You took several breaks from being abysmally terrible to 1) get me into a new institution and let me teach in a place that treats educators with respect 2) allow me to visit with my parents and 4 close friends from different periods of my life in May. Beyond that, you disappointed me over and over, let me down, and exploded my family. Fuck you, gtfo and make room for a year with a little more humility and emotional generosity. Again, fuck you 2021.

I had a less bad 2021 than many (most?) people, but even the 1 good part was stressful and there were a lot of not good parts even in our relatively privileged & lucky lives, plus the awareness of worse shittiness for so many people

so, excited to join everyone itt in saying "fuck 2021"

fuck 2021; fuck covid, fuck delta, fuck omicron; fuck the constant ratcheting up of anxiety about new waves & variants every time I think soon I can stop worrying a bit; fuck various other illnesses & many other sadnesses afflicting friends, family, colleagues & ilx0rs (and a couple of minor ongoing irritations in my own life)... again, fuck 2021.
