Voting is NOW OPEN for the ILX 2021 film poll: things that came out somewhere, in some format, for the first time, are eligible.

Helpfully, I can use this text from two years ago:
Annoyed that we’re rolling now, when you still have too many films to catch up on from last year that are now on home viewing formats, or haven't been released in your country yet? Hey, what better chance than the next three weeks 10 days if you’re quarantined, or socially isolating outside of work hours, due to the plague.
Send ballots to i l x polls ter [at] g ma il [dot] c o m by January 22nd.
MAXIMUM 35 votesMINIMUM 7 votes
Votes are weighted. Please send your lists with your TOP choice at the TOP, but do not number your choices. (It's very annoying for formatting. After last month, the pollrunner reserves the right to alter your ballot if they're having to retype it anyway.)
If you're voting for a non-English-speaking film that has a commonly-accepted English title, by all means include the original title in brackets, but please type the English title first. (This is also to help with tallying, and does not otherwise reflect the poll's stylebook.)
Questions and campaigning are both welcome ITT. Feel free to spread this thread or the voting instructions to friends and strangers.

Where can I watch The Souvenir Part II? Critically acclaimed but no cinema is showing it (not in Ireland anyway) and on no streaming sites (or even those other avenues)
― Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Thursday, 13 January 2022 16:50 (three years ago)
Releasing in cinemas in UK and Ireland on Feb 4th.

Crap, we're doing this already?
― Max Hamburgers (Eric H.), Thursday, 13 January 2022 22:08 (three years ago)
Will probably run a 2021 poll in mid-Jan, just because I’ll have some PST mornings to be able to post in (and might have seen Drive My Car, Benedetta, and Bad Luck Banging by then). European residents are welcome to campaign for US 2020 releases to be re-voted.
One out of three ain't bad.

Bumping for sic and for all youse. I watched the two Hamaguchi things and liked one more than the other, still gunna watch the Sorrentino before voting, then what? Summer Of 85? After Love? The Lost Daughter I suppose, doubt I'll get Bad Luck Banging before the deadline. I saw the Macbeth thing but I guess that'll be next year for me.

It’s Sunday night where some of you are! Why not make your long list and click “add” on some now-on-streaming things?
― dark end of the st. maud (sic), Monday, 17 January 2022 01:34 (three years ago)
I've streamed nine applicable movies since you started this thread! I'm not done, but I don't think I'm going to make it to 40, and that's a pathetic number to pick a top 10 from.
― Cherish, Monday, 17 January 2022 20:37 (three years ago)
Do you have a minimum in mind? I mean, what if only, say, 5 people vote, will you still run the results?
― Cherish, Monday, 17 January 2022 20:38 (three years ago)
Minimum: one voter more than the 2020 poll.
― dark end of the st. maud (sic), Monday, 17 January 2022 21:02 (three years ago)

I really liked Bergman Island, The Power of the Dog, The Lost Daughter, The Hand of God, and especially Passing, and thought Annette was interesting
― Dan S, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 04:35 (three years ago)
Titane was gross and crass, I hate that kind of body horror and had to look away during several sequences, but it was ultimately kind of moving
― Dan S, Wednesday, 19 January 2022 04:39 (three years ago)

best movie on that list in venom 2 don't miss it
― STOCK FIST-PUMPER BRAD (BradNelson), Wednesday, 19 January 2022 19:32 (three years ago)
finding it hard to vote, since I’ve only seen 7 or 8 films I’ve really liked so far this year, and some of the ones I’m thinking I will maybe like the most - Memoria, Drive My Car, Days, The Worst Person In the World, Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy, Compartment No. 6, Licorice Pizza, A Hero, What Do We See When We Look at the Sky? - I haven’t seen yet
― Dan S, Thursday, 20 January 2022 03:09 (three years ago)
there is not as much access to films as there is to music, and they aren’t as easily digestible. I don’t think January is when we should be having polls like this
― Dan S, Thursday, 20 January 2022 03:38 (three years ago)
that was harsh. I'm grateful to you sic for being willing to do this

― Aberdeen Thugs Kiss All Visiting Fans (Jonathan Hellion Mumble), Saturday, 22 January 2022 00:01 (three years ago)
Voted for just 9 films - maybe my worst ever cinema attendance. Looking forward to seeing what I missed out on.
― tangenttangent, Saturday, 22 January 2022 00:52 (three years ago)
besides being very middlebrow like every other Aaron Sorkin film and TV show, Being the Ricardos didn’t seem to have any real connection with Lucille Ball or Desi Arnaz to me. Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, and JK Simmons all gave really hammy and unrealistic performances and I couldn’t see beyond the acting. Even The Trial of the Chicago 7 was better than this, tbh
― Dan S, Saturday, 22 January 2022 01:32 (three years ago)
Oh btw it's prolly too late now, but the last film to make it on my list was AFTER LOVE, that is some heavy thing in your belly but beautifully done
― Aberdeen Thugs Kiss All Visiting Fans (Jonathan Hellion Mumble), Saturday, 22 January 2022 01:33 (three years ago)
Maybe some recency bias, maybe it was some sappy shit, but it dropped something of the bottom of the ballot that I surely didn't care about and I've already forgot what was
― Aberdeen Thugs Kiss All Visiting Fans (Jonathan Hellion Mumble), Saturday, 22 January 2022 01:34 (three years ago)
Bergman Island was really good. The pairs of Vicky Krieps with Tim Roth and Mia Wasikowska with Anders Danielson Lie were perfect, and the film went back and forth between fantasy and reality and then blended both in a compelling way.
― Dan S, Saturday, 22 January 2022 03:08 (three years ago)
I have really like Mia Hansen-Løve’s past films but they have always seemed almost too understated and enigmatic. This brought her forward
― Dan S, Saturday, 22 January 2022 03:10 (three years ago)
liked
― Dan S, Saturday, 22 January 2022 03:11 (three years ago)
Same for me -- her best film and one that has lingered in my memory..
― So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 22 January 2022 03:32 (three years ago)
― Dan S,
here we disagree. Trial of the Chicago 7 appalled me, the worst film of 2021; this was at least brisk and glib, with Kidman more than that. I'm glad they honored the surprisingly melancholy intelligence visible in her '70s talk show appearances.
― So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 22 January 2022 03:35 (three years ago)
I guess neither of them was very good
Is the deadline tonight? I've only come up with a list of 7 films so far, the last two of which I'm a little queasy about
― Dan S, Saturday, 22 January 2022 03:56 (three years ago)
Tomorrow, but might take stragglers ‘til Tuesday
― dark end of the st. maud (sic), Saturday, 22 January 2022 05:30 (three years ago)
Got my list down to 31. Will extend voting until Tuesday largely so I can try and squeeze a Benedetta viewing in. Possibly while eating Vienetta.
