ron (ron), Monday, 18 November 2002 07:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, it is brown and soft but I don't wear it anymore. You can have it.

"Me with nuthin' to say/you in your autumn sweater..."

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 18 November 2002 08:22 (twenty-three years ago)

What the hell is a sweater?

A jumper, on the other hand...

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 18 November 2002 08:31 (twenty-three years ago)

jumpers are wool and sweaters are cotton?

dakatin, Monday, 18 November 2002 08:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Nah. They're the same thing.

Polo necks rule!

(but is a polo neck a turtle neck?)

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 18 November 2002 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Traumatic experiences involving Weezer music have put me off them for good.

Honda (Honda), Monday, 18 November 2002 11:45 (twenty-three years ago)

I have friends who refer to certain illicit packages as their sweater deliveries.

Moths!

Aaron A., Tuesday, 19 November 2002 02:59 (twenty-three years ago)

In American English, we call this

a polo shirt. Is there a term in British English for this sort of shirt?

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 03:06 (twenty-three years ago)

i have a sweater that is dark purple with a vertical light purple stripe down the center. i like it because it reminds me of post-painterly abstract art.
i can't find my black v-neck sweater. it is essential. i am sad.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 03:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Das ist der schönen Pullover!

(the stripey one, obviously)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 03:36 (twenty-three years ago)

(and dude hey, Tad, don't bring up the das/der thing)

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 03:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a really ugly purple/blue jumper w/skinny red and um, maybe KHAKI stripes... it isn't actually as ugly as that makes it sound... I bought it cos I felt sorry for it. I wore it out once, when I was meeting a girl, as I thought it might be funny. I don't think she even noticed. I wear it when I walk at night or work in cold weather, and I've gotten kinda fond of it.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 10:38 (twenty-three years ago)

ten months pass...
Autumn is the time to revive the thread about sweaters.

Yup, we call it a polo shirt :)

"I asked God to send me right away, a hundred million moths that would eat up my Toronto Maple Leafs sweater."

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 00:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I love the National Film Board short of "The Hockey Sweater". Must have seen it a million times and I'm still not sick of it.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 02:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I love sweaters. I want to live some place where I can wear sweaters year-round and not faint from being overheated.

Instead, I have about 15 beautiful sweaters, and I get to wear each one about two times each year, if I am lucky. And mostly when I drive home for the winder holidays. Which means that my sweaters don't wear-out, unravel, or become otherwise unwearable thus necessitating purchasing new sweaters. Therefore, if you look at photos of me during the winter holidays, going back six years, you will see that I am wearing the same damn sweaters in each one!

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 06:35 (twenty-two years ago)

That stripey turtleneck sweater pictured above is the coolest thing of all time. Was it pricey? Answer--uh, yeah. Where did you get it, erik?

Skottie, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 06:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Not so sure about the batman-like utility belt, however. Hope that it's not permanently attached...

Skottie, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 06:56 (twenty-two years ago)

golf sweaters are where it's at, not in an andy peters style though unless you are really cool.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

or really stupid. I own one sweater, I am always freezing.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Is a hooded top classed as a sweater? If not, I do not own one! :-(

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 09:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I am a sweater junkie. I love the cozyness of them and the fact that they are so versitile. I have 4 hand made sweater jakets. 2 icelandic sweater's (very good for hiking and camping). 10 or 12 various lambs wool sweater's. 3 cotton sweaters (for summer). And a new a edition a awsome sweater coat.

Pink,
I would class a hooded top as a sweater. But that might just be me.

danielle g. (danielle g.), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool, I just need one other person to say so & that makes it true! Cheers!! ;-)
My fave sweater/hoodie at the moment is the one that I bought outside the N*E*R*D gig in london. It only cost £10 & I love it! It's navy blue and has N*E*R*D written on it! well duh! I can be seen sporting it on one of the what do you look like threads!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 1 October 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmmm, I would say that a sweater has to have been knitted from yarn (wool, cotton, alpaca, acrylic, whatever) in order to be a sweater. Hoods may or may not be attached. The N*E*R*D* thing, while cool, sounds more like a sweatshirt. Or no?

Skottie, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

For example, here we see Marshall modeling a hooded sweatshirt...

Skottie, Wednesday, 1 October 2003 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

There is no way in hell that hooded tops are sweaters.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 2 October 2003 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Is this a sweater?

Kim (Kim), Thursday, 2 October 2003 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeez, calm down!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 2 October 2003 06:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooded sweatshirts aren't sweaters. Kim's example, however, is.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 2 October 2003 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Kims' example looks like a crochet project gone out of control.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Thursday, 2 October 2003 07:12 (twenty-two years ago)

No, a crochet project out of control will be the very epitome of chaos, and it will happen shortly when I attempt to learn crochet.

It is too fucking cold. I need more big cozy sweaters.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 2 October 2003 07:19 (twenty-two years ago)

best sweater ever: green (probably cotton) men's crewneck long sleeve sweater, agnes b fall collection, 1999, galleries lafayette
