Why is ilxor so googlable?

I'm sure I asked this before when we were on greenspun, but what's the secret, eh? It's not just google either. looking in the log to see how people find us we're often above or near official sites dedicated to the subjects googled. I just saw someone googled us for "The Mary Whitehouse EXperience" and we're even above a BB dedicated to it. That's just one example. Even the "I Love Conkers" board with only a dozen posts is in the top 50 hits for simply "conkers".

cor blimey o riley, ect. BUT HOW?

HAHA, the ile log itself is hit number 3 if you type in "britneydoesanna"! there i'm just compounding the problem.

Well, it all goes on link volumes, but some links are more valuable than others. Mr Greenspun is a bit of a interweb demigod so links from his domain are weighted heavily. And since ilxor is easily the most linked domain from his, we pick up huge numbers of google points.

isn't it to do with virtually everyone who posts here having their own site/blog etc and linking to the boards and then linking to everyone else's site, thus forming some sort of feedback loop type effect or summat...

oh and what ricky said...

Because Google decide to update XMillion websites each day. This includes weblogs, news sites and other sites that are popular and are updated regularly.

You can tell that is updated from: the date cached, e.g Google indexed Ilxor yesterday, 17th November.

also, because the pages are very simple and contain lots of text. website designers often don't realise this - text gets you search hits, not graphics
