Ivan Reitman memorial poll

Directorial work only, in order to keep things from getting too unwieldy. Was tempted to make it a non-Ghostbusters poll in order to prevent a likely sweep.

"Twins" for me.

I actually prefer Meatballs to Ghostbusters--or at the very least, I watched the former as a kid more than the latter (though I watched it plenty as well). I can't claim that its a good movie, but the Bill Murray/Chris Makepeace scenes are pretty much part of my DNA.

I liked Twins and Dave when I saw them theatrically (at age 10 and 15, I feel obligated to note). Somehow never bothered with Kindergarten Cop, and doubt I'll ever feel compelled to go back and correct that now. No Strings Attached is the only post-'93 thing I've seen; I don't remember it being any good.

Legal Eagles is a title I probably haven't thought of since the 80s, when I'm pretty sure my parents rented it, although I have no memory of watching it with them. If anyone wants to rep for it, though, I'll listen. Also, if anyone knows anything at all about Foxy Lady.

It's a close call between Stripes and Meatballs for me. Had to give the nod to Stripes. Bill Murray at his peak.

I've actually only seen maybe 4-5 of these, and am not compelled to go back and fill in the gaps, honestly.

(My alternate might have been "Dave", which I remember seeing at a dollar theater around time of release and being charmed by.)

Didn't mean to sound apologetic about Twins and Dave, btw; I just wanted to note that its been decades since I've seen either of them. I'd gladly watch either of them again before I see any of his Junior-and-onwards output.

Easily Stripes (of the three I've seen). As I've mentioned before, his business partner, Joe Medjuck, taught the introductory film course I took in 1979.

Legal Eagles is dreadful and long but boasts one of Robert Redford's most flashy, glamorous performances -- one of the few times he loosened up enough to think, "Eh, I'm a star and still look good and can deliver a line wryly enough."

So who you gonna call? The martini police (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 16 February 2022 01:50 (four years ago)

I think Ghostbusters is the only one I've seen in its entirety, but I'm still voting Cannibal Girls, a perennial favourite on Toronto's CITYTV, for the scene where a hippie Eugene Levy plays a folk song on guitar for Andrea Martin.
