I'm beginning to think there is a great value in listening to music of all sorts from all areas and NOT talking about it or not feeling the need or looming pressure, outside or inside, to talk about it, just absorbing it. Perhaps this is an internal backlash from my constant AMG work, I'm not sure, since clearly plenty find much of interest to say about music almost daily. But I'm starting to get squeezed dry, I feel.

I will be up until about ten minutes from now because I am very tired from going to a show (Mountain Goats, yay!) though I will attempt to do some reading beforehand (RJ Smith's The Great Black Way, yay). good luck w/the demos, roxy.

"2. jess harvell’s Wolfgang Voight review is the #1 review of the day and gets an 8.5 Best New Review — found it really frank and conversational, it reads like she sat down with us to try to explain why she couldn’t get into the new Wolfgang Voight record, but it’s respectful and avoids what i can imagine was a strong temptation to dismiss the fuck out of this record, which she makes sound wildly unappetizing"

Great Megadeth review in Pitchfork.
― grit of ad hominem (kkvgz), Wednesday, 20 July 2011 13:54 (fourteen years ago)
reading Jia Tolentino's profile of Robyn in the New Yorker and had to look up who the Pitchfork reviewer was. (it was Jess.)
“Robyn” became one of the first pop albums to receive a review from the indie bible Pitchfork, which called it “one of the year’s finest, smartest, and most engaging pop records.” (“Trust the Swedes,” the reviewer added. “They know what they’re doing with this sort of thing.”)
