this is the dream thread and it's all about dreams

Dunno if this has been done yet, but I'm quite knew and I was interested in the talk of dreams on that phobia thread. I've never had that teeth-falling-out dream ever, even though I brush my teeth almost obsessively.
The one reccurring dream I do get is falling, nay, hanging. I'm hanging onto a ledge (a cliff, a windowsill, a stair banister) and I manage to pull myself back up, only to find that I daren't stand up or even sit up for fear of falling off again. I rarely do fall right down though.
The maddest dream I ever had though was about two years ago. Looking back, I must have been influenced by the League of Gents, but I don't really remember seeing it till fairly recently. Anyway, another reccurring dream I often get is being in a house where one gets about by crawling through tunnels to get from room to room. Often these tunnels are made of cardboard and the houses are all made of cardboard too, but with working stoves and beds etc. I had this dream again one night where I was at a festival and instead of tents, people were living in these cardboard houses. I had taken my bike (for some reason) and I left it locked to a lamppost outside a cottage unlike all the other makeshift houses. It was quite a pretty cottage but it had strange black, white and purple colouring to it which made me uneasy. When I came back to collect my bike, I found it totally mangled and wrapped straight round the lamppost. It could only have been the people who lived in the house. So I knocked on the door. Out comes a very tall Papa Lazarou-esque man wearing only black, white and purple. He looked like a vaudeville satanist or magician or something. So I yelled at him for smashing up my bike and he started muttering some weird language at me - like a curse. He went back in doors and then a woman came out, dressed quite similarly. She had hair all over her face like a wolf-boy - even on her forhead and cheeks. She wore bright purple lipstick and black and purple clothes. Although she acted friendly and apoloised for her husband's behaviour, her appearance frightened me and I must've backed away. When she went back in doors, I looked again at the house and noticed that the decor featured a frieze of tesselated black and white rats going all round the door. The plaque on the front of the house read "The Rats Of November".
This dream had me well spooked. I guess the characters in it are quite LoG's but I really don't think I'd seen much of that show before I had the dream.

Okay, so tell us all about what dreams you get. Recurring dreams? Scarey dreams? nice dreams?

I used to get some repeating ones, where I'd either be falling or flying, but that was years and years ago. I get quite a few sex dreams, an oddly significant minority about people I don't think I fancy at all. None about ILXers yet, sadly. I remember very, very few dreams - maybe as few as one a month or so nowadays.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 18 November 2002 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I think th flying ones happen at a certain stage in your life (like 9-12 years old). It feels so easy to do and so real but I found i could only fly a few feet above the ground. Actually, I think I never tried to go any higher cos that was good enough for me. Last time I flew was about 6 months ago when I had my only ever true lucid dream and thought I'd see if it was possible. Sadly, my dad woke me up FOR NO APPARENT REASON about 15 minutes into that dream. Fucking unfair.

mark s (mark s), Monday, 18 November 2002 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i dreamed the other night i was with some children, and they had a horrible worm infestation - they had these white wriggly worms infesting their mouths. next thing i knew i had some in my mouth and i was completely freaking out about it, spitting and being sick with just the idea of what was happening.
gross.
most of my dreams are pretty easy to figure out, and i used to fly quite a lot, way above power lines and houses but not lately.
the worm thing? im not keen to go down that road, it doesnt sound too good.

Last night, after dreaming that I was concierge in a hotel where Red Hot Chilli Peppers were playing, and I found Anthony Keidis's underwear which I auctioned off to a fan, I dreamt that I met with Madonna and some random person X for lunch to discuss her acquisition of Britney to her label. Britney was apparently meeting us later, and when she did arrive Madonna sent me out to meet her. I told Britney that I loved her new harder sound on her most recent album (non-existent, as it's the one after Britney), and she hugged me and told me that she had had to hide the mastertapes from her mother, who wanted her to make an album version of Purcell's devotional hymns. Her next project, she claimed would be even better. She said "I wanna be the Yeah Yeah Yeahs or the Bang Bang Bang (?) or the Hong Kong (?) of our time." She was very fierce on this point. She was speaking normally but very very quickly, such that reality helped out by supplying sub-titles which floated around her chest.

i saw "Waking Life" last night and thought it could have been amazing with just a few more experienced actors - i was impressed that a film lacking in almost any drama whatsoever could hold my attention like that.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 18:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Shit - just remembered that last night I dreamt I was in a boat and it was sailing really fast but it came to the end of the water (if you see what I mean and literally flew into a massive hall full of people smashing the keel on the ground. The impact made me fly out the boat, into the air quite a few feet high and then land on my feet. I looked in the mirror and I'd lost a tooth.

I think I've been on this board too much recently.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 19:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I had a dream like two nights ago or something that involved bnw, my boss, the Harley crew, and about 6 eightballs of cocaine. The strangest part of the dream involved an elevator. I think I was meant to be dating bnw but we didn't seem like we were dating so it could've been a front, because apparently he was a coke dealer and I was helping him sell it to my boss. Who was doing lines up and down my coffee table.

Also we were watching Third Watch. I hate having dreams.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i've started 'experimenting' with lucid dreaming: i've gotten close a couple of times, but one notable change has been my dream-recall abilities: in two weeks, i've remembered upwards of twenty dreams (and have most of them written down)

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 22:08 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
I had this weird dream that M & K were getting married (the friends whose wedding I was in last month) and the ceremony was HUGE, it was an all-day thing, and there were hundreds of people there, including Janet Jackson and some of my cousins, and it turned out that as Honor Guy I had to sing thirty minutes of Radiohead songs (I don't sing, even in dreams), and I was very perturbed about that but decided not to complain until sometime after the wedding when I could just say, "You know, I appreciate you picking Radiohead, but I would rather not have sung." I woke up before there was any singing, though, having just found a secret entrance to a shower in one of the plantation's bedrooms.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 December 2003 17:15 (twenty-one years ago)

So at 1am I was giving one of my fellow Stylus writers (who is young and merican) an impromptu quickfire lesson on romantic poetry, and then I dreamt that he just casually flew over from America to hand in his essay to me. Not that I set one. I neep to sleep more.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 5 December 2003 17:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a lot of dreams about bnw, what is that about?

Allyzay, Friday, 5 December 2003 18:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I realized earlier that pretty much all of my dreams seem unbelievably bizarre to me (singing Radiohead? what?) because I hardly ever remember my dreams -- just a couple a year.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 5 December 2003 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Most ladies dream about me. Is it my dashing good looks? My witty repartee? My inability to hold a job? My total lack of muscles? Hard to say.

bnw (bnw), Friday, 5 December 2003 22:09 (twenty-one years ago)

haha i dreamt abt how i wz demonstrating the principle of intertia w.my own spine and skull which i had somehow removed and was swinging about in a gingerly fashion - to dramatise that if i got the big knobby but travelling real fast, but then hit something, the force of getting it to stop wd cause havoc

anyway i somehow slightly dislocated the neck bones even though i wz being v.careful, and came over all dizzy

(ps there wz no one else in the room: i wz demonstrating it to the AGES or something)

The other night I had a dream... it was some sort of darts tournament. It was obviously a big audience, because it seemed to be being held in The Crucible, but with football stadium style seating. I was sitting in the crowd, right near the front. The oche was really long as well. Like, 200 metres. Really darkly lit. Anyway, at the end of the oche was the darts player, he was quite thin for a darts player. And there was this girl who I go to university with and want to bone, S****e. She was a Bond girl. I don't know how I know this, but she was a Bond girl. She had a revolver, and was dressed in a catsuit. She was obviously hidden from everyone else but me. As the darts player walked down the oche at normal speed, she was doing backflips alongside him at the same speed. As soon as he got to the bottom, she floored him to prevent someone shooting him. And while ths was going on, "Get Out Of My Dreams (And Into My Car)" was playing constantly.

I have a recurrent dream
Everytime I loose my voice
I swallow little glowing lights
My mother and son baked for me

And during the night
They do a trapeze walk
Until they're in the sky
Right above my bed

While I'm asleep
My mother and son pour into me
Warm glowing oil
Into my wide open throat

I have a recurrent dream
Everytime I feel a hoarseness
I swallow warm glowing lights
My mother and son baked for me, oh

They make me feel so much better
They make me feel better

We have a recurrent dream
Everytime we loose our voices
We dream swallow little lights
Our mother and son bake for us

During the night
They do a little trapeze walk
Until they're in the sky
Right above our heads
While we're asleep
My mother and son pour into us
Pour into us
Warm glowing oil
Into our wide open throats

I have a recurrent dream

They make me feel better
They make me feel better

Dreams that wake you up so thoroughly that you might as well get up even though it's 4 a.m. -- DUD.

Usually I don't remember my dreams, but I'll go through stretches of a week or two with vivid ones that completely screw up my sleep schedule. Ugh!

DV and Accentmonkey, perhaps you will be amused to learn that this one was about me in an airport, trying to figure out how to get to Europe. I found an airline that would pay ME to fly their product, but once I got in the air, I had the increasing sense that they were taking me hostage.

Whitman Mayonnaise (Rock Hardy), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 09:00 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not normally prone to having nightmares, but recently I woke up screaming hysterically during the night after I'd watched a TV programme all about the Metropolitan Police's "Black Museum", which is full of stuff about grisly murders. I couldn't remember a thing about my nightmare thoough, so it must have been so ghastly my mind had blocked it out.

C J (C J), Wednesday, 2 August 2006 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

im always impressed by people who can experience something while awake and then dream about it that same night. ive got some serious lag time between my conscious and subconscious where i dont generally dream about real life situations until ive almost forgotten they even happened.

Guys I dreamt last night that I had I think 14 or 15 toes. There were little ones between bigger ones, my feet were asymmetrical. I could feel the bones of my feet rearranged to accomodate them. What does this mean?

nickalicious, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 14:21 (seventeen years ago)

anal sex?

Ste, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 14:27 (seventeen years ago)

I keep having recurring dreams lately that I am driving through really ugly mountains on an interstate. I'm riding an office chair at freeway speeds & I can't really steer it. I pull up off an offramp and run into some mountain man who shows me minerals. We use the Mohs scale of mineral hardness on mineral of the night. Last night it was mica, night before it was limestone, which we could scratch with a penny.

Abbott, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 19:42 (seventeen years ago)

What does my dream mean??

gr8080, Tuesday, 12 June 2007 19:43 (seventeen years ago)

one month passes...

I had a dream about minimal.

Dom Passantino, Friday, 13 July 2007 09:39 (seventeen years ago)

People like Dom, Ethan and Mr. Que go round taking the piss out of other people and complaining about things like "list threads"** without actually writing anything worthwhile themselves. I may not always be right about every single fact but at least I try and contribute worthwhile posts which is more than can be said than for people like them. They feel that because they've been here for a certain amount of time they can swan about with this holier than thou attitude, taking the piss out of peoples posts while contributing nothing to encourage music discussion

acrobat, Friday, 13 July 2007 09:39 (seventeen years ago)

What else would "the dream thread" be "all about"?

Dom Passantino, Friday, 13 July 2007 09:41 (seventeen years ago)

woke up (inside the dream) and the person next to me in bed, an anonymous female who seemed vaguely crazy i guess, had pierced me (like, earring-style pierced), all over my face and hands. i had to take them out one by one and it was painful. the end.

Brigadier Pudding, Wednesday, 21 November 2007 15:40 (seventeen years ago)

I like re-reading old dream threads and scrolling down very slowly so I can guess whose dream it is before their name appears.

Eg.
haha i dreamt abt how i wz demonstrating the principle of intertia w.my own spine and skull - could only be mark s.

Likewise I dreamt I bought a Gamecube - obviously jel.

eight months pass...

latest insane, strangely detailed drunk dream:
I'm working at a floating restaurant I worked at seven years ago (w/ my best friend, who worked there with me). Only it looks completely different and may not be floating - but I know it's the Oasis. Only it's owned by the owner of the bar where my friend just started (who does not appear in the dream).
We're in a shift meeting, the staff is people I worked with then plus high school and college classmates plus random people from my life. We're all bitching about something, just screwing around, when I look over at the 'tortilla maker' (which is what it was in my head, but looked suspiciously like a popcorn maker) is on fire. Cue panic. Some people go to put out the fire.
Dream cuts to the lawn outside, all the windows have been blacked out with smoke - my friend is pissed because her car is on the other side and she can't get to it (mine is on this side). For some reason I get worried about the people inside so I run up to the door and open it, letting out smoke plus co-workers.
Cuts to me walking along a country road w/ friend, and I realize we're near a military base and there's been a nuclear explosion (attack or whatever) - I look forward and see a wave of destruction heading down the road. Looks like a B&W version of
Wave gets closer, everything gets hazy as I feel it hit me, I look over and see my friend disintegrating, and then I wake up before I die.

milo z, Wednesday, 23 July 2008 21:38 (sixteen years ago)

seven years pass...

So I dreamt about performing a scientific dream experiment, to 'teleport' a solid object from the real world into the dream world, and back again.

The great part was that I chose a carton of milk and the test was to see if I could keep it fresh by putting it in a refrigerator in my dream.

Unfortunately brain over loaded with this 'inception' project and woke me up before results were in
