I used to have such a huge crush on him as a child. :\

oh, i always liked coburn, a good actor, and very personable it seemed. i have a soft spot for the presidents analyst, not particularly well rated but a good film. he was always worth watching

So that's why the guys on radio this morning were talking about the 1 million that he recieved to do the Carlsberg ads, and no other voiceovers during the ad campaign.

i used to always confuse James Coburn with Lee Marvin.

RIP, mr. "in like flynn."

Tad (llamasfur), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 11:14 (twenty-three years ago)

I always liked him. He was my favourite in The Magnificent Seven, and I wouldn't have sat through toss like the Flynn flicks with a less appealing actor.

She's got it all. Yeah, she's got it made.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

i always liked coburn too. one of the most flattering compliments i was ever paid was that i looked like him in one great shot in M7 (i didn't, and don't, but still). the frequent marvin/coburn mixups are a nice tribute to both, i think.

this made me sad when i heard it on bbc world service this morning ca 4:45 am.

Terrific actor and could be cool in even the crappiest movies - even shit like Hudson Hawk where he says the following line...

"I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Rome. I did my first bare-handed strangulation here. Communist politician. God, I miss Communism. The Red threat... people were scared... the agency had some respect, and I got laid every night."

And pulls it off!

Lots of other movies he's cool in - and not just the Flint ones: Cross Of Iron (one of the best WWII movies ever!), Harry In Your Pocket, Charade, plus he tried to teach zen meditation to Animal on the Muppet Show.

Chris Barrus (xibalba), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

harry in your pocket was very good yes

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 19 November 2002 21:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I loved The Last of Sheila. What Did You Do in the War Daddy? is the first adult movie I remember seeing. He was great.
