Here's what I'm talking about - for months, I can't remember the name of the PCR COVID testing center I go to (Curative). every time I try to remember their name to make an appointment, I keep thinking it's Covalence or Confluence and then can't find the website as a result until I re-check my old appointment texts. This has happened five or six times over, and no matter how many times I purposefully commit the name to memory, the cycle repeats itself, and it sometimes takes me ten minutes to remember.
Then, once I did The Mystery of Edwin Drood once, and our director was about to lose his mind with the actress playing Princess Puffer. She had a simple line, a joke:
"Been a long time since I had you! You haven't had better since, right? (to audience) He hasn't had ANY since!"
she kept screwing it up as....
"Been a long time since I had you! I'm the best you've had since, right? (to audience) I'm the only you've had since!", which didn't make sense and wasn't funny. They would go over this and fix it over and over at rehearsal, and she'd get it temporarily, and back to the old wrong punchline. Never got it right. Nothing they would do would fix it, that was how she was going to say it, and it was pre-destined!
what is the reasoning that we sometimes remember things imperfectly, with no corrective response working - the false memory persists. is there a term for this? and what are your imperfect memories you struggle to correct? that's the reason I'm asking, it kinda fascinates me.

(p.s., no Mandela effect stuff, collective mis-rememberings are not what I'm referring to. just things you as an individual somehow learned wrong and no amount of effort or re-learning can fix)

I use a web app which makes short sound clips sharable on twitter, and can never remember the name of it, or any easy way to search for it. I have a notepad file with every possible keyword in the title, saved on my computer, but still I find myself looking through all of my bookmarks until I can find it. literally used it an hour ago and have already forgotten the name.

Neither Mr. Jaq nor I can remember our actual anniversary date. It is either 8/30 or 8/31. All we are sure of is that it is NOT the date our officiant wrote on our marriage license...which we also can't find the physical copy of that either. So if we remember at all, we celebrate both days.

I'm trying to remember the name of this crazy Japanese band that sounds a bit like Elvis Costello sped up and I can see the shape of the word but I just cannot recall it.

three years pass...
for years, my mother used to use T-Mobile's email to text service but for whatever reason, when she first did it, she wrote my actual email address there, as opposed to the formatted T-Mobile email address you have to use to get it to send properly. so I'd get long, 10-12 message 'text messages' sent in the form of .txt files in individual emails. it would drive me nuts, and I finally had to ask her 'can't you just use the text feature on your phone' 2 years ago and showed her what was happening and she stopped and we communicated normally.
today, the text-emails started showing up again. *we had solved this problem* arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh
