Glenn Crowe, he's called. The first League Of Ireland player (who is still at their League of Ireland club) to be capped in 16 years. How about that?

Does this mean:

A. The League of Ireland is improving. Future managers should not ignore the home league, as there have been some good players who spent most of their careers in it (Stephen Geoghan and Tony Sheridan in recent memory.)

OR

B. The Republic of Ireland has a really thin squad, and must resort to playing piss-weak League of Ireland players when we have injuries to a couple of our good players.

I fear B. But I still can't wait to see how he gets on. Opinions? Does he deserve it? I haven't been following the League of Ireland in a the last couple of seasons, so I don't know too much about him. I used to be an avid Bray Wanderers follower (and still am, to a certain degree) but I don't attend much anymore.

It's all very charitable. Throw a bone to the whingers.

Wes Houlihan was named too. We're going to get our ass kicked.

The League of Ireland is a fucking farce too.

"and look at the Finn Harps keeper! he's actually broken the crossbar!" Brian Moore c.1976

OK, cheap shot. but I do get the impression that the League of Ireland is roughly on Third Division or maybe even Conference level ...

Don't worry Robin, no argument from myself or Michael it would appear.

Bohemians had a good run in Europe a year or two ago, though, didn't they ? Beating Aberdeen, Kaiserslautern ? I think Ireland's club sides' UEFA co-efficients have gone up in the last few years quite a bit.

Doesn't some of the national team's success filter down a bit ? Surely not everyone in Dublin and Cork supports Manyoo and the 'pool. Incidentally, who is the best supported club in the LOI and how many do they get in at an average game ?

Ireland's strike force will feature Glen Crowe, and Spurs' reserve centre half Gary Doherty. Christ almighty!

now you know what it must feel like these days to be a Northern Ireland fan :).

eleven years pass...

I couldn't find an actual League of Ireland thread so reviving this.

I'm in Dublin for a course for a few days, realised when I got here last night that bohemians vs shamrock rovers is tonight so i'm going to pop along, assuming it's not all ticket or sold out.

Anything I should expect? I was planning to go in the Boh's end though rovers do have ex-st Johnstone midfielder Paddy Cregg.
