Rocky vs. Rambo

I was just looking through Sylvester Stallone's filmography and realized that the only movies of his I've seen were Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, Zookeeper, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Where should I start - Rocky or Rambo?

The first Rocky movie and the first Rambo movie — First Blood — are radically different from their respective sequels. Maybe just watch those two and then walk away.

(Voted Rambo.)

Rocky is interesting before watching it I didn’t realize he was illiterate and possibly already punch drunk

I would watch Cliffhanger first, then Demolition Man.

Rocky & Rocky II are strong character pieces, but the rest of them range between messy and dumb with IV, the one I liked the most as a kid, being the one I hate the most as an adult. Skip the ones after II with roman numerals and then pick it back up at Rocky Balboa. (Would also recommend the first Creed film, and Creed II was sorta good.)

Watch First Blood and then pretend they never made anything else.

I'd also recommend Cop Land, but not until after you've seen some of his schlockier work so you can fully appreciate this late-career rebound.

xp *the rest of them = the numbered ones, to be clear. Rocky Balboa came so much later that I kind of don't group it with the original series, though it's very much tied into them. It's up there with the first two.

Cop Land was dope. Saw it in high school

Rocky all day, although both franchises were eventually polluted by rah-rah America jingoism, Rambo's started sooner and was more disgusting and it retroactively tainted the original film.

"Do we get to win this time?", oh fuck offfffff

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I'd think that Cobra and Over the Top are so 'over the top' that they would inspire chuckles in a Road House sense.

voted for Rambo (1972) and then realized I should have voted for Rocky (1976)

Rocky is the better franchise inasmuch as they're all at least pretty good (except Rocky V, although I prefer First Blood to any of the Rockys.

It took me way too long to recognize how watchable Stallone is. The Cheese Trilogy (Cobra, Over the Top, Tango & Cash) is god tier garbage.

Just got a copy of Nighthawks. Can't wait.

Wow, another decisive victory in the ring for Rocky.. still the champ

It was admittedly unfair for me to cast a vote without having seen the last two entries in either franchise (although I wager the Creed films will land more adroitly than the two 21st Century Rambo entries).

The most recent (final?) Rambo movie was pretty good.
