Did you go very often? Did you collect shells and look in rock pools? Or did you just sit on the beach all day?

If you sat on the beach at Weston-super-Mare having a picnic, you always got sand in your sandwiches because it was so windy there. And you had to avoid being kicked by donkeys.

when I was young, Weymouth beach was a playground, and Chesil Beach was an unfriendly open mass of nothing. now Weymouth beach in high season is a repulsive display of all my least favourite human characteristics, and Chesil Beach is a wonderful site of self-discovery.

I lived my earliest years in Weston-super-Mare, CJ! The main hazard was the black mud and three-mile tides - an average of two people a week had to be rescued during the summers.
