i was having a real life "just got high" stereotypical discussion with a friend on determinism vs free will earlier this afternoon. i think he leans heavily toward determinism but there is just nothing that determined that 2026 would be excluded from this thread, imo

i just learned about david park a couple months ago! i'm borrowing a book from a friend (bay area figurative art, 1950-1965) and getting to know some of his contemporaries in that scene. love it

one of my biggest frustrations with the Whitney is how much of their permanent collection they keep in storage for years at a time until it fits one of their theme exhibits. I think 'Four Men' has mostly been sitting in a closet for 15 years, some shit you just gotta hang on the wall and leave it there in perpetuity.

that is a crime. Four Men is one of my very favorites of his. i would also love to see "Nude - Green" (1957) in person. in the book i have, it's one of the only images in black and white (guess they couldn't get the rights to a better image), and even on the internet i haven't been able to find a better image than this one:

They even had 'Door to the River' locked away for a couple of years iirc, what is wrong with these people, is there nothing sacred etc

i'm not Californian so 'Four Men' is the only one i've seen in person. Gotta make do with books and hope for a huge retrospective on this coast one day.
