The art of seeing w/ one's own eyes.

Andrew L (Andrew L), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

It was just on the news and my most Catholic friend is about to come over and drink wine while it's on. But first BROOKSIDE.

suzy (suzy), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 19:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Is it the Brakhage film? I live in the US so not that it matters.

Honda (Honda), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Is this the first test in Celebrity Big Brother?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 20:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw a deer head this morning. That's kind of like a public autopsy.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 20 November 2002 20:59 (twenty-three years ago)

well that was disappointing except for the moment just before he took the veil off and i was overcome by this feeling of REAL panic like GOD would smite us all for this. it's the closest i ever got to a religious experience since i collapsed at my holy communion cos i didn't eat for oh, 3 hrs! i almost dropped my sandwich. but after that i was really used to the rote meatiness of it all

classic = slicing the brain like in the deli
dud = obscuring the head sawing

bob zemko (bob), Thursday, 21 November 2002 03:35 (twenty-three years ago)

*dropping the sandwich" != a euphemism. yet

bob zemko (bob), Thursday, 21 November 2002 03:37 (twenty-three years ago)

i decided not to watch it when i saw the michael jackson-style hat the guy wz wearing

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 21 November 2002 09:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah, Herr Doktor Gunther von Hagen. He's a rum old cove alright. Had a lecture off him at university as part of my anatomy course; he passed around a plastinated leg. V v weird. Always wears that hat, as well. Did he wear it all the way through the dissection? Eurgh.

Mind you, this compares not to another anatomy tutor who got his hands all corpsey while still wearing his wedding/signet rings, then waved his hands around excitedly splattering everyone in the lab with corpsey formaldehyde. Yuk.

Liz :x (Liz :x), Thursday, 21 November 2002 09:20 (twenty-three years ago)

What did he do after the autopsy? Did he just put all the bits back in again and sew the corpse up?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 November 2002 09:27 (twenty-three years ago)

he's guesting on jamie oliver next week, on the "long pig: the last taboo" special

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 21 November 2002 09:31 (twenty-three years ago)

obv the influence of throbbing gristle is more widespread than i imagined.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 21 November 2002 09:43 (twenty-three years ago)

He's sending the pieces to Germany to be plasticinated, whatever that is. I've just read about it on the Guardian website. There was a bit of it on breakfast telly too. I didn't like it.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 21 November 2002 10:02 (twenty-three years ago)

autopsy = arsetopsy

rubbish - and now im tired as a result of being up till 1am

james (james), Thursday, 21 November 2002 10:19 (twenty-three years ago)

i came in late last night and saw the last bit where they sliced the heart up a bit more and said it was big, and that the guy was dead. thrilling stuff. what did i miss?

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 21 November 2002 10:59 (twenty-three years ago)

haha, I thought about watching this and then I fell asleep and woke up just before it was to start and thought, in my half-asleep state, 'I don't really want to watch this thing--I am sleepy and I think I should sleep.' so, I did and now I'm more glad I did. if dr. von hagen=dr. quincy I might have had second half-asleep thoughts.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 21 November 2002 11:02 (twenty-three years ago)

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 21 November 2002 11:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I once read a book by the 'real life' Quincy. It was called 'Coroner to the Stars'.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 21 November 2002 11:26 (twenty-three years ago)

arsetopsy what an incredible pun

i found him amusing cos i could never make up such an excellent villain. i was disappointed that he didn't wear his leather waistcoat over his smock tho. some boor in the audience bitched about his hat and he said he wore it in homage to the anatomists who preceded him. the audience applauded

that's showbiz!

bob zemko (bob), Thursday, 21 November 2002 11:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Hasn't Anna reclaimed that hat?

Graham (graham), Thursday, 21 November 2002 12:11 (twenty-three years ago)

who reclaimed the heart? oh, that's right. some german's gonna plasticinate them.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 21 November 2002 12:16 (twenty-three years ago)

I too only caught the heart but that bit was very interesting. Bloke in hat was strange though. Am I the only person to have actually seen Body Worlds here though? (Which is fascinating and made all the more so by the art/science dichotomy).

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 21 November 2002 12:27 (twenty-three years ago)

The Roswell Alien was more realistic!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 21 November 2002 18:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Heehee. The tv show was v. disappointing. All chat, no splat as they say. But I read a very amusing article about Bodyworlds in Bizzare that had some rather disturbing transcriptions from the exhibiton guestbook including:
"I accidentally threw up in the exhibit of the dead woman and the foetus - sorry!"
