Heh. I have had many hours of amusement speaking phrasebook film studies Danish exceedingly slowly in the manner of the characters in Gertrud and Ordet.

Haven't seen Gertrud yet, Ordet rules tho. They have a lot of coffee.

There are moments when I thought of Le Bonheur as my favorite film; it remains my pick for "Best movie with tonal mismatch between subject and style."

Days of Heaven over Ikiru, Chinatown, and Le Grande Illusion, mostly because this is the only time I'll ever be tempted to vote for Malick.

So much to love in this group I don't know if I can pick one. Had the same problem in the last group, wound up not voting.

La Cienaga — just rewatched it recently, what a great unsettling movie.

That's one of the three I most need to see from this group, along with Sambizanga and The Watermelon Woman

I love Le Bonheur, La ciénaga, Gertrud, and Ikiru, but have to go with Twin Peaks: The Return, one of my favorite viewing experiences of all time

This is around where my film knowledge starts to break down, with 8 movies I haven't seen. I hope to watch many of them this year.

I think I'll go with Out of the past, although I'd rather watch his Lewton pictures. Pickpocket also great but not my favorite Bresson either.

Tough to choose from those. Probably will vote Bunuel or Bresson but the rest are great. Ikiru is def one if my mans best.

Though these polls have inspired me to watched a bunch of the films for the first time, I haven't voted for a "new" film in any of them. Until now. I just watched Sambizanga and Los Olvidados, and wish I could vote for both of them!

TWIN PEAKS and LA CIENEGA following

Six films I haven't seen, and most of the rest I'm finding it hard to enthuse about - my least-favourite Bresson and Kurosawa, the most opaque Dreyers,
and I'm feeling ambivalent about Godard. I watched India Song again a few weeks ago, but I'd be hard-pressed to say it's more than "intriguing". Le Bonheur is an impeccably crafted piece of ragebait.
I love the final scene of Days of Heaven, the best evocation of "life goes on" I can recall, but I'll vote for the film I'd most like to rewatch: La ciénaga.

I bought the box set Twin Peaks: From Z to A a few years ago, when it was first released and before it became outrageously expensive.

It encompasses all of Twin Peaks - the 3 seasons, the interviews, the outtakes, the missing pieces, the behind the curtain scenes, and the unedited roadhouse performances

Sambizanga (Sarah Maldoror; 1972)

Loved this. It derives some of its power, discourse-wise, from not being that militant about colonialism, unlike other African films at the time. But it does this in another way, which is through one woman and one man's singular experience of conflict.

The wife's denial of her husband's politics was a key into it but not the only one.

Only West Indies left from this list..

Now more than a year and a half out, it seems that JEANNE DIELMAN and the revenge of the female directors aside, Third Cinema’s roaring arrival was the main storyline of the ‘22 poll. And good!
