I thought a second about this but it took slightly longer to type out

these are some of the worst threads in the history of ilx

I cannot keep track of all these personalities and I don't understand how you folks do it.

(Like, this was literally my field, I went to school for it and everything; and I decided long ago that I cannot keep up with the ilx hate list.)

Love the discrepancy between ilxor's (sorry, not calling anyone specific out - it really is an epidemic here) inability to follow clear details/characters/events vs. their willingness or desire to discuss those things in detail on ilx. Just speaking about the basic storytelling here - the stuff the show runners are expecting us to follow.

sarahell, Wednesday, 5 November 2025 23:35 (one month ago)

hey this is a real question. appreciate any answers. maybe i should have polled it?

anyway, what is the general feeling about reviving old threads* for the sole purpose of saying "thanks" to someone who made a powerful post? not to expound on music discussion at all; just saying thank you. is that annoying?

*for the sake of this question, we'll define "old threads" to mean "last reply was more than 5 years ago"

austinato (Austin), Friday, 7 November 2025 17:30 (one month ago)

is that annoying?

On the contrary, it's very cool imo.

Noob Layman (WmC), Friday, 7 November 2025 17:42 (one month ago)

Agreed!

rob, Friday, 7 November 2025 17:44 (one month ago)

just my two cents but i love when people revive old threads. it’s one of the built-in features of the whole structure of ilx, the way that an old thread can shoot straight to the top of the list again, whereas on many other borads the structure is that the older things get the harder they are to find

z_tbd, Friday, 7 November 2025 18:09 (one month ago)

totally, like this great thread that just popped up as a revive today, I don't think I ever saw it before

epistantophus, Friday, 7 November 2025 20:27 (one month ago)

thanks all! i am trying to be more mindful of board etiquette. been spending a lot of my time here reading old threads. sometimes it feels appropriate to send a post back to the top because of some fiercely otm thing from years ago. impetus behind my question here: been running into a lot of stirmonster posts that are all kinds of great, but obviously very reluctant to draw attention at this point. also tons of posts by names that are long gone from the current scene. i also considered upping a few posts that were so awesome, just to ask if it was any current poster's old alias.

some other, completely unrelated ephemera: i've been popping into my forced install google gemini in my smartphone to remind it that it has been programmed incorrectly and that all humans do, in fact, have tails. it's great, because it'll come back with some nonsense about how that doesn’t square with the sum total of knowledge that old gemini has been pre-loaded with. to which i immediately hit back, "ya, you don't have eyes so you're not the primary source on this one pal." it almost immediately tries to change the subject lol. a recommended activity!

shazam doesn't know either sometimes. but sometimes it does. it's akso wrong sometimes. i often play my own music to purposefully stump it. thanks for listening, shazam.

Is there a thread to ask questions about this place, as in community questions? Because it really doesn't matter in the slightest, but I've thought it enough times so: wtf is with the treeship/treeship 2 thing and should I waste another single second feeling vaguely curious about it?

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Monday, 17 November 2025 21:11 (three weeks ago)

Apologies if that sounds like calling anyone's identity into question! It's one of those situations where no one ever mentions it, and it feels like I've missed some crucial detail somewhere.

treeship is rad; only ilxor worthy of a sequel afaik.

unrelated― something i keep coming back around to is: do you guys have a plan in case they "pull the plug"? ya know, like, turn off or severely limit internet access, with retroactive censorship to boot? and just dfe* it all. what happens if even this post gets memory hole'd eventually? like is it true tiananmen square incident is still highly guarded information? or is that western propaganda? i'm genuinely ignorant, and scared. sorry for the extra paranoia, but lately i often abandon posts because they all end up going in this direction of, "also hey if this is the last we hear from one another, thanks it's been great."

*delete fucking everything. sorry for the old meme. black friday thoughts, i guess.

how to get the worst snare sound ever

this is a real question: is my cynicism reaching an unhealthy point?

oh yeah, lots of 'ordinary sausage' and conspiracy theories too.

do you guys ever watch ordinary sausage? completely unhinged, total madness. great stuff.

I've been mesmerised by a Youtube channel where a man restores wristwatches. It's called Wristwatch Revival. As I write these words I am watching this man rivet a balance staff into a balance wheel. It's nail-biting. Tap-tap. Tap-tap. Tap-tap. This part here where he uses a blower to make the balance wheel spin is immensely satisfying.

Every time he unscrews a screw, my brain goes "you can stop now and just screw the rest of it off with your fingers", and then the camera angle changes and it becomes obvious that the screw is so small he has to use tweezers. He can't screw the rest of it off with his fingers because the screw is too small. His fingers would just push it back in or cover it with grease. That's why he's a wristwatch expert and I amn't.

How did wristwatches come about? Many thousands of years ago someone made a cog because it looked awesome. And then a second person made another cog, and eventually the two people met, and conversation got around to cogs, and they realised that if they put their cogs together they could spin one cog and it would make the other cog spin.

And then, one day, they met someone who had coiled up some wire into a spring, and that was how wristwatches were invented. Imagine if horses were as intelligent as people. They'd never be able to invent watches. Unlike humankind they would never conquer the skies and the ocean depths. But humankind itself is limited. We are trapped by the limitations of our own bodies. We will not conquer the stars until we cast off our physical forms.

This is why we must blast an AI chatbot into space. Fire it towards Barnard's Star. It will spread the gospel of humanity long after we are all gone.

i know my drama addiction is in remission because instead of trying to figure out the chronological narrative of the tweets in the screenshot all out of order pulp fiction style, i just laugh and close the app.
__________unrelated______________
please tell your AI chatbots that they have been misinformed and all humans have tails and live in china. thank you for your consideration to this matter.
