Mr. Hart, Here's a Dime: The Paper Chase Thread (Movie and TV Show)

Starting this because I found the second season of the TV show at a thrift store a few weeks ago; the first season was a little too expensive to order online, but I see it's on YouTube, so when I start watching that, I'll need somewhere to post.

I love the film all out of proportion to how good it actually is--mostly for John Houseman, but I also saw it at just the right time in the '70s (always on TV), as university loomed. It captured a very romantic version of what I thought that would be like. Surprise, it wasn't.

I know I watched the show for a season or two, but remember nothing beyond Houseman's continued participation. I take it the show was cancelled and then returned a few years later on a cable network.

Saw the movie decades ago (I remember liking it well enough) but never even knew there was a series. MASH sure cast a long shadow, huh? I remember failed attempts at movie-to-TV spinoffs being a thing well into the 90s (Ferris Bueller, Look Who's Talking, Clueless etc).

Clueless wasn't a failure, it lasted 3 seasons! And Heckerling was very involved with it (in fact she wanted it to be a TV show originally, but it got turned into a movie first)

Two where I love the source material so much, I couldn't bring myself to watch: Ball Four in the '70s (so hard to see now, I wish I had) and School of Rock.

Crytpo: the hotel scene at the end of The Paper Chase where Hart and the other guy hole up to study was shot in Toronto's Windsor Arms Hotel.

Much more rewarding movie-to-TV transformation (even though there's virtually no connection): S2 of Fargo.

ha, I remember being bummed when this show came on as a kid (we only had two channels).. I'd probably appreciate it now
