I am also meeting next week with another hollywood actor, who is sponsoring yet another new wing of the oxford university library. As with John Ritter (discussed in separate thread), I have never seen his movies. is Mark Harmon any good?

he looks like john ritter!

THEY'RE ALL THE SAME GUY.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 21 November 2002 13:24 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm pretty sure that Mark Harmon has never been in anything good (I am offering this as a comment on him, not as a way of distinguishing him from the others pictured above, as it doesn't work for that purpose).

You missed out Dennis Quaid, James: it should have been a seamless reel of photos, starting, obviously, with Mark Harmon, then Scott Bakula, John Ritter, Kevin Costner, Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford ... and finally Dennis Quaid. Presiding over all of them, and setting a good example, is Martin Short.

Fine, but if you were directing a movie and all the actors above had been casted, and they all died one by one (not the actors - their characters), what would be the most sage order, considering box office criteria; who would the ultimate leading man be; who else might you cast in support - they have to vaguely resemble the other actors; and what would the plot be about, etc.?

James, Thursday, 21 November 2002 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I point you towards the excellent pap 80's film "Summer School" and his cameos in "Fear and Loathing" and "The Last Supper". As a rule he's usually the seal of shit on any straight to video title.

I think he's a fine actor, as it goes. He's also an extremely lucky man:

I would cast one more similar-looking actor, possibly Sam Neil, but definitely John Denver ...

m'colleagues and I found the cobbled cheerleading picture of John Ritter and Mark Harmon hliarious. here's a challenge: does anyone here have the prowess to make up a picture, comrising the faces of all the actors mentioned here so far? Mark Harmon, Scott Bakula, John Ritter, Kevin Costner, Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford, Dennis Quaid, Sam Neil, John Denver. I would love to pin this up on the board in the reading room.

ham goodge, Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:39 (twenty-three years ago)

hey, that was not cobbled!

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 21 November 2002 16:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Hey, almost every actor talked about in this thread looks kind of like the singer from U.S. Maple. Weird.

Huh?

Sspeedy, Saturday, 13 September 2003 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark Harmon was excellent as Ted Bundy in "Deliberate Stranger" and "Summer School" is brilliant.

He had a solid guest spot on The West Wing. And you can't go wrong when you're cavorting w/ a young Kirstie Alley AND a young Courtney Thorne-Smith. And two Savini-wannabes.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 23 August 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

RJG's pic is/was genius!

I always got Mark Harmon confused with Ken Olin.

But never again, thanks to RJG.

coincidentally, there is a guy at my office who I thought looked a bit like mickey rourke/dennis quaid/andrew mccarthy/judge reinhold/etc other people said harrison ford and someone thought rick moranis, too. so, I was asked to put together an image for the front of a birthday card, for him (have distorted his face, out of courtesy):
