Take the political compass test!

I came out economic left/ right = - 4.25
Authoritarian/Libertarian = - 4.82
The numbers are meaningless but indicate mild leaning towards the left and libertarianism.

Miss Laura, Thursday, 21 November 2002 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember this from about a year back... the problem with that website is that everyone and their dog comes out in the left/libertarian quadrant, even when they're not.*

*This is not to imply anything about Laura, who I'm sure is nice and cuddly and liberal and saves pandas in her spare time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 November 2002 14:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I remember doing this. I came out on top of Tony Benn.

caitlin, Thursday, 21 November 2002 14:40 (twenty-three years ago)

Which, I'm sure, is where all good lefties would like to be.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 November 2002 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I came out on top of Tony Benn.

haha, you WISH.

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 21 November 2002 14:47 (twenty-three years ago)

I dunno RJG, he's a bit old and wrinkly. Maybe I should see what his New Labour son Hilary looks like

caitlin, Thursday, 21 November 2002 14:49 (twenty-three years ago)

Aw, shit, this is old? I thought it was new and cutting-edge...it was in today's Globe and Mail. Nevermind then.

Miss Laura, Thursday, 21 November 2002 14:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw him on TV! He looks like a younger versh of Tony! If Benn Snr cares for ppl so much, why did he give his son a girl's name so he'd get beaten up at school?

I came out on zero on the economic line and -5.82 on the libertarian/authoritarian one!

MarkH (MarkH), Thursday, 21 November 2002 14:53 (twenty-three years ago)

-7 economically, -8.77 libertarianly (sorry about that, it's a horrid word). That makes me some sort of manic extremist who regards Tony Benn as having repressive, right-wing leanings. That's not far wrong.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 21 November 2002 18:51 (twenty-three years ago)

quite: never forget Benn's attitude to pirate radio in the 60s ...

robin carmody (robin carmody), Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Economic Left/Right: -2.88
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -3.33

I'm closer to the centre than that!

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:23 (twenty-three years ago)

Economic Left/Right: -5.38
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -2.21

I came out on top of Tony Benn too. And Gandhi.

C J (C J), Thursday, 21 November 2002 19:52 (twenty-three years ago)

My results just brought up a big picture of Pat Paulsen. Go figure.

J0hn Darn13ll3 (J0hn Darn13ll3), Thursday, 21 November 2002 20:34 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't, Matt, so I guess I'm not as good[sic] a leftie as I'd always thought.

Economic Left/Right: 1.50
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.72

Some of these were pretty loaded questions from the get-go, though (ie. "If globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations.")

, Thursday, 21 November 2002 22:43 (twenty-three years ago)

"if you had power, would you use it for evil?"

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 21 November 2002 22:54 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh, loads of the questions are loaded, that's why most ppl end up in the left/lib quad. If you phrase questions like that, you can't even expect die-hard Tories to answer in favour of multinational corporations.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 November 2002 22:55 (twenty-three years ago)

Economic Left/Right: -3.88
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.18

it's too easy to answer the questions how you think they should be answered, rather than how you trooly feel

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Friday, 22 November 2002 00:47 (twenty-three years ago)

The thing is, though, with only two axes it can't even come close to giving a full picture of your political leanings. A hexadimensional profile would be just a start....

Miss Laura, Friday, 22 November 2002 10:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Might be hard to make an image showing that, though.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 22 November 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

this old chesnut:

Economic Left/Right: -6.38

Authoritarian/Libertarian: -8.77

more left than last time

Ed (dali), Friday, 22 November 2002 19:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Ooh, Ed and I are almost political soulmates!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 22 November 2002 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

Economic Left/Right: -7.25
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.82

I agree, some of the questions are a bit duff.

I am amused that the FAQ includes "You can't be a Libertarian and Left-Wing!" and afeared that it includes "Your question about Jews is anti-semitic!".

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 4 December 2002 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

two months pass...
Economic Left/Right: 0.12
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -2.62

You guys realize that you can skip over questions, right?

Curtis Stephens, Thursday, 13 February 2003 23:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Economic Left/Right: -6.88
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.56.

chicxulub (chicxulub), Friday, 14 February 2003 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

four months pass...
Economic Left/Right: -9.50
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -9.90

Yeeee.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 28 June 2003 02:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Left/Right: -9.62
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -8.72

So I'm the most leftist of us all. Do I get a prize?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 30 June 2003 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

nine months pass...
Revive to go with the other quizzes.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Thatcher OR Pol Pot? They're pretty much the same in my book, in terms of unspeakable evil.

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

well but as pointed out on another thread, Thatcher didn't actually actively oversee the outright murder of 1/4 of her country's population.

Overstating the evils of rightist politicians = making the left look bad.

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Pointing out that Thatcher didn't actually actively oversee the outright murder of 1/4 of her country's population = Taking posts too seriously

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 21 April 2004 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)
