the app still exists, so I assume the network does (I think I wound up deleting it, but I would occasionaly open it up as recently as a year ago and see just random images). Confusingly Ello is also now the name of a more high profile reading app that has nothing to do with old Ello.

Twitter/X is all but dead, I'm still following the last remaining accounts, but it is doomed. Bluesky is refreshing, but I am following 270 accounts now and somehow the posts are not that interesting, I think it will go away too. My boomer friends are still on Facebook and Instagram, which are both ridiculously out of touch. Tiktok seems like a compendium of bad takes to me. I've cancelled my subscriptions to the Washington Post and LA Times

I'm going to have to develop an interest in painting or pasteling or something else in my old age because social media is not good and is getting worse

I mostly use Facebook these days for niche interest groups, it's still really good for those. Like my late grandad was a farmer in the west of England and one day I came across a group for old photos of farming in the west of England. Posted a couple of old photos of him at work and got loads of responses, memories of him, it was really nice.

The NBA social ecosystem seems to have migrated over to Bluesky.

One dumb thing about Bluesky is people who make blocklists based on keyword searches and then promote them to all the dweebs, so by, say, complaining about X, you get labelled as a fan of X, and blocked by people who actually agree with you. Although given they’re credulous dickheads, perhaps it’s no loss.

It's funny but nearly half of the followers I gained unfollowed me despite me posting maybe 2 or 3 times max since. So either I don't post enough for them or I posted too much! I've been avoiding political posting as much as I can so I know it cant be that.

I also used that clearsky app thing and saw I was blocked by people ive never heard of. It seems there is a culture of people who block everyone. That list of top blockers is utterly insane.

oh and the algerian users stopped adding me when I put on my bio I wasnt Algerian.

my enthusiasm for bluesky has definitely nosedived in the last few months and that's directly linked to the surge of people who have left X and moved over there, making it, for all intents and purposes, Twitter again. I'm still on it though.

I am not seeing the sea of Maga comments on people's political postings that I see on twitter. But yeah some of the simplistic resistance lib crew has definitely come over.

I keep getting more followers as I am listed somewhere as a dc news source, even though I largely post about music and live music in the dc area. Not seeing disappointed people unfollowing me, they're most likely just scrolling past me.
