the app still exists, so I assume the network does (I think I wound up deleting it, but I would occasionaly open it up as recently as a year ago and see just random images). Confusingly Ello is also now the name of a more high profile reading app that has nothing to do with old Ello.

The other recent thing he’d posted was about trying to start his car which was at a “repair yard” or some similar wording with just his phone, but his model only remotely turned on the a/c via phone. Pretty sure if your car is being repaired, someone hands you your keys when you pay up. However, if your car is towed, they do not have the keys.

you can download it with yt-dlp, and if you pass the verbose option it'll print the url of the format being downloaded

yt-dlp is a commandline program for downloading video or audio from pretty much any popular website

there are probably graphical UIs for it but the terminal version is simple enough to use imo

I really appreciate that! I am scared of messing around with terminal commands on my Mac, but I feel like that is within my knowledge level and may try it.

there's almost certainly a decent GUI wrapper for it, i just don't know of any to recommend since i use the terminal version

also my example ain't that great because it will not only print a load of other irrelevant info text, it'll also download the video file to computer.

This is like the web itself. Early on, we had AOL, and accessing the internet happened through AOL. If the AOL web portal wasn’t showing you something, it would be a lot harder to find. Then more browsers came along, and these linked you out to the broader internet. Now anyone can put up a blog and host their own views online.

The stream can can be viewed using VLC player using the "Open Network Stream" option (other media players can probably do the same). VLC player has an option to convert the stream if I wanted to save the video as a single movie file.

As the video is a stream, it's not as simple as having, say, an mp4 file to link to.

(didn't intend to make that a hyperlink... clicking on it gets you nothing useful.)
