Originally was going to break down options to things like "seen both; BARBIE is better" and "Only seeing OPPENHEIMER," but really. Just vote for the better one tbh.

Barbie, easy.

and even if I had liked both equally, I probably would have still picked Barbie for not being three hours long

Roz, Wednesday, 2 August 2023 17:24 (two years ago)

only one of them was directed and written by the leading auteur of american cinema

I will watch Barbie, will never watch another Nolan movie (unless it's the Peter Andre biopic)

Haven't seen either, will eventually see Barbie probably, will not see Oppenheimer.

Random Restaurateur (Jordan), Thursday, 3 August 2023 15:29 (two years ago)

if anyone from Japan, where funny barbenheimer memes are extremely not done (similar to holocaust jokes in the west) reads this: yes, we should have thought this through before memeing the hell out of it. :-/

StanM, Thursday, 3 August 2023 19:43 (two years ago)

I mean, the joke is that two diametrically opposite films premiered the same day and sound funny together, the memes aren't making light of the actual Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombings.

linoleum gallagher (Neanderthal), Thursday, 3 August 2023 19:50 (two years ago)

whereas a Holocaust joke is actually taking the piss out of the Holocaust

linoleum gallagher (Neanderthal), Thursday, 3 August 2023 19:50 (two years ago)

Just saw Oppenheimer last night. Might not get the chance to see Barbie before this poll closes, but it has to be better.

peace, man, Sunday, 6 August 2023 23:16 (two years ago)

haven't seen oppenheimer yet, but i feel like it's probably better than barbie (which was good but overrated). seems unlikely that both movies are equally overrated

flopson, Sunday, 6 August 2023 23:20 (two years ago)

Have not seen Barbie, but refuse to believe it could be worse than Oppenheimer.

Zelda Zonk, Sunday, 6 August 2023 23:40 (two years ago)

Both are too long tbh

The poll is good

i finally saw oppenheimer and idk i actually liked it despite hating chris nolan and all he stands for. this poll for me is moments of boredom vs. an occasionally hamfisted script. i guess i also fundamentally see oppenheimer and barbie as less complex objects than each movie treats them, like i think oppenheimer did not want me to totally hate him even though he was presented accurately as the wishy-washiest dilettante, a perfect instrument, and i think barbie wanted me to connect the ostensible femmetopia of barbieland to the absence of any such thing in reality but could only do it through monologues that i did not enjoy the writing of. kind of a wash for me. glad i liked them both tho. first nolan i’ve enjoyed since interstellar

ivy., Wednesday, 30 August 2023 04:23 (two years ago)

apparently i like nolan when he has no action scenes to block whatsoever, think he should get deeper into this

ivy., Wednesday, 30 August 2023 04:28 (two years ago)

Oppenheimer had a lot wrong with it but I had a better time than with any other Nolan joint. Like Barbie, which I liked slightly better, I didn't think it particularly profound, and that's fine.

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 9 December 2023 09:48 (one year ago)

Barbie dominated this poll and continues to do well in year-end polls despite the simple fact that nothing featuring Kate McKinnon could be good.

Chris L, Saturday, 9 December 2023 09:57 (one year ago)

McKinnon doesnt have a monologue so im afraid even if shes not your thing shes about fifth in line for the problems with barbie

close encounters of the third knid (darraghmac), Saturday, 9 December 2023 10:23 (one year ago)

Slightly disingenuous in that Oppenheimer is far outpacing Barbie overall in the year-end praise derby. (It’s in the Oppy thread, but fgti’s single sentence assessment of that movie is all-time otm.)
