How to get a kick ass Kazaa Participation Level

Those of you who use the popular p2p are probably very familiar with their system of persuading more users to share as well as grab... ie giving better download access priority to people who share more than overs, etc.

So, what bait do you download in order to get tons of upload hits on your side? Britney videos? Something illegal, reprehensible, and disgusting?

a file called fremmeneppavenetteexplained.doc

How does this Participation thing work? Please use a word that means "implicit" and possibly starting with an S in your answer.

Kazaa retains steadfast users via rewarding them a better chance at download access who share more files than others. I guess the program calculates the Participation level based on how often people upload from your machine... if there is a crunch to download a file from someone's machine, those with higher Participation levels get priority over those without lower ones. So, someone who just downloads, then moves the file off the shared folder would have a harder time finding someone to download from, etc.

with lower ones, sorry

i don't share, i know that sucks huh? i don't trust the code.

yes, i am paranoid about my $1000+ toy getting fucked with.

do you get pop ups even when the kazaa ap has been closed? i've run adwasher and it's still happens occasionally...

also, i run kazaalite, but recently kazaa asks to upgrade to something a new version, i've declined.

gygax!, Thursday, 21 November 2002 23:02 (twenty-three years ago)

me too. I'm scared if i upgrade, they'll gimme loads of pop ups.

not to mention spyware, that gator bullshit, etc.

here's another weird thing... (bearing in mind i don't share files)
here's the process order:

dl an mp3
liten to mp3
judge mp3 as complete ass
delete mp3

...
later on
...

shut down all aps including kazaa
clear out recycle bin
notice that recycle bin still has contents
open recycle bin
one mp3 remains
attempt to delete mp3
error: "this file can not be deleted due to a sharing violation with another application, please shut down all applications and attempt again"
check all other applications: neither media player nor kazaa is running, both are completely disengaged
get creepy feeling
shut down computer

Sharing files can make my computer vulnerable to hackers, even if I'm running ZoneAlarm?

Leee (Leee), Friday, 22 November 2002 21:32 (twenty-three years ago)

seven months pass...
People who make/viruses or responsable for pop ups should be banned from anything even remotely pleasurable for all they seem to want to do is wreck it for anyone else If I met or knew a person responsable for any of the above then I would show them my form of HELL in the form of a sound beating then show them (using their own computer of course) just how to stop a computer from working properly!) The only thing they achieve is keeping the likes of Norton and others making their fortunes and keeping their well paid jobs So what they get out of it beats me!

Use kazaa lite, ensure you have the best firewall and anti-virus,and update regularly. Then run Spybot(www.security.kolla.de)each time you disconnect. No popups, spyware or adware will remain on your system. While you are at it,have a look on your program files for something called 'Windows/Trickler_4010.exe'.If it's there, try and remove it or delete it.It is a dirty, smelly bit of spyware, and Spybot will kill it for you,but it is that well protected that you have to hit it twice! Then click 'Immunize' and no more nasty sneaky spy programs.

Eugene Speed (Eugene Speed), Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

What Euegene said. Also, some versions of Kazaa lite automatically put you at the Grand Master whatever 1000 level. But then some versions of Kazaa lite come with Whenu and Cydoor and other spyware/adware in which case they're not really 'lite'.

Aaron A., Thursday, 17 July 2003 22:55 (twenty-two years ago)

this reminds me i should uninstall kazaa lite.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 17 July 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Yo dude
touching on somthing i noticed about adware guys keeping norton in buisness, come on fella who do you think puts the big virus's out there!NORTON(aledgedley)_,,,,i'm not scared of saying it.
as for kaaza i have to say i've tried almost of not every p2p client on the market,i've even paid subscription for a couple like the dick i am and i have to say kazaa is by way the best try morpheus and you'll see what i mean.

"...every one!"

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm confused. I haven't used a version of Kazaa since like late 2002 that hasn't had the participation level automatically locked on 1000.
