It Takes a Thief

I used to love this show as a kid. Robert Wagner as some kind of (ex-) thief who now works for the government, I think. Fred Astaire would show up once in a while to play his dad who taught him the tricks of the trade. It seemed sophisticated to me at the time, more like a film than just a BS television show although I have no idea how it holds up today since all I have watched in decades is that one video with The 5th Dimension and Bones Howe.

In Latin America it was known as Ladrón sin destino.

Wagner’s character was Alexander Mundy, although of course for ages I thought his last name was Monday.

I tried to get into this show some years back when some nostalgia TV channel was running it back to back with episodes of The Name of the Game, another sophisto-crime series you probably remember. Both series did seem to have higher-than-typical production value. It's an interesting little niche in TV history. You could compare the two to Mission: Impossible but they struck me as a little more stylish than MI. For whatever reason I didn't stick with either show though - just thought "that's kinda cool" and moved on.

Totally forgot about The Name of the Game, really only remember the title. But thanks for locating the niche.

Even these two shows that mostly ran at the same time seem kind of different to me. The one seems very late sixties the other very early seventies.
