"Because why not, instead of a 20-game max ballot, I've upped it to 40!!! THIS ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT MEAN YOU NEED 40 GAMES. If you only wanna do 5 or 3 or 1 even, that's great! WE NEVER GET MANY BALLOTS FOR VIDEO GAME STUFF so anything I can do to encourage you to cast one, I will do. What do you need? Tell me!!!

I'm using a similar system to last time, you can make a weighted, unweighted or hybrid ballot...

- Weighted. You can vote for up to 40 games, in order, and they will receive 80, 78, 76... 6, 4, 2 points respectively.
- Unweighted. You can vote for up to 40 games, in any order, and they will all receive 42 points.
- Hybrid. The first games will receive weighted points (80, 78, 76...) and anything after the "weighted" section will receive the remaining points, split equally. Don't worry, the spreadsheet handles this.

Consoles are not listed on the ballot, but you can check this separate spreadsheet to see what it's listed as (comment here or in the spreadsheet if i've screwed something up and I'll fix it).

Once you have your ballot, send it to ps2ilx at gmail (I prefer you just copy-paste the ballot text! sending google sheets is annoying and complicated) and I'll start adding them up! Deadline set for November 8th which will almost certainly end up getting pushed but if MOST of you can hit this deadline it'll make my life MUCH EASIER. There's already stuff in the ballot to show how it works, just erase that and do yours."

I put a month+ to get your ballots in so hopefully that's enough time! We'll move it if we have to. Hopefully we get some voters!!

metroid: zero mission is in the nominations twice (it was not a gamecube game either), and i think someone intended to nominate devil may cry 1 to 3 separately with 'devil may cry 1-3'

i put together a ballot quickly, not very hard because i haven't played a whole lot from this era. this generation was just a little before my time in terms of owning a console (the wii was the first i owned) so the few all-time classic games i love from this era i played later on for the most part. i did have a gba but i didn't have anything worthwhile for it except pokemon.

campaigning hard for Mother 3, so stupid that it has still never been officially localized and released internationally? but the fan translation is great, weird that fans had to do it but did they ever, only videogame that has made me cry, just beautiful stuff and a very fitting cap to the Mother/Earthbound trilogy

Just finished my ballot. Like UFO, I also missed out on a bunch of this gen at the time. I had a Dreamcast at launch, but from 2001 until 2015ish, I was almost completely out of the loop with gaming, so I missed a lot of classic stuff here. I've still never played Ico or Shadow of the Colossus, for instance. As such, my ballot is a little weird.

as usual i've also not played that many games and no way i'm voting only for those i did play because this gen was the dark ages for me wrt to figuring out where to spend my limited money

more than half my ballot will be filled with stuff i've only watched LPs of, or that seems interesting in any sense

my biggest stumbling block to voting is there are a few games on the list i'm pretty sure i'd love more than most of the games i've played but i don't have the time or means to play them

also i have no idea how i worked around it last time, but the ballot helper thing is not exactly... helping with short unweighted/hybrid ballots. gonna try to figure it out today. no problems with ranked-only ballots, or 40-game ballots of any type (if we receive any of those i'll be wildly impressed!)

if you're really burning to send a hybrid or unweighted ballot in the meantime, feel free, i will manually assign the correct number of points per game for now

whew ok easier than i expected to fix, never mind the ballot helper works better than ever now :)

all you have to do, unweighted/hybrid voter, is make sure you put ranks where ranked, and leave ranks blank where unranked. the way it should have worked from the beginning

re: means, at the very least i can tell you that emu for most of these consoles is pretty solid these days! can't speak to xb because i haven't looked into it, but ps2 for sure, dc i am pretty sure (i mean i managed to do it on my phone somehow with some slowdown), and i hear ppl talking about the gc emu all the time

I can't even remember if I played metal gear solid 2 or not. and can I vote for half life if I only played it on pc?

This poll sure brought back memories of that weird transitional time in my early 20s when I had moved in with my (now ex) girlfriend right after college, that sterile west side apartment, PS2 and GBA games, cats, etc. I voted.

im not gonna stop you from voting HL2 even if you played it on pc, but if it were me voting for it in a console poll i'd wait til the next gen just because x360 feels like the "definitive" console release in the orange box. but yeah there are a lot of "ppl prob played it on pc" games in this list and i'm not gonna tell ppl what to do. i mean i'm voting for a couple of dreamcast games i only played once they were released on 360 because i didn't have a dreamcast

having a hard time trimming it down to 40 rn, though if we were only allowed to submit games played for a significant amount of time then i'd have trouble finding 20 i'd want to submit to a best of anything

going to go a hybrid ballot with the ranked half being mostly games i've played + "no way i wouldn't have loved this if i had the chance" (hello, illbleed) and the unranked half being mostly unkonwns + games i did play and enjoy but wouldn't want to rank higher than the others

Oops, I had HL2 pretty high on my ballot but I definitely played it on 360, forgot about that.

gamecube emulation is some of the best around, ps2 emulation is decent enough these days, xbox emulation took forever to get off the ground (only really in the last 5 years) but at least exists in a usable state now - xemu is the one you want. dreamcast emulation is decent enough too iirc

something else that is interesting re: playing the archives

if you have a ps2 lying around (any kind, but fat one in particular), it is easy and cheap to get everything you need to put games on a hard drive and play them like that! type free mc boot into youtube to learn more if that sounds up your alley

while i was happy with emu i expect i'll be even happier w being able to play on native hw on my crt

(i understand gc is easyish, and dreamcast is difficult but doable)
