all of those are great, as are Black Girl, Wanda, In Vanda’s Room, The Headless Woman

still haven't seen Sambizanga, Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks, or The Watermelon Woman

City of Sadness over In Vanda's Room, though neither is exactly a fun night at the movies, even for my tastes.

A lot of great movies on that list, but I'm shocked "Sunrise" was ignored.

I've been wanting to watch it, but as long as I've been looking A City of Sadness has not been available on streaming or on dvd in the US

Exactly my thought, it does so much with so little. My vote too, tho could have easily gone with Sunrise, Pandora’s Box, Johnny Guitar or The Headless Woman.

I know Sunrise deserves this, but I’m voting for Moonlight. It’s a movie that doesn't seem to be well-liked here but it is one of those films about queer identity that has burned itself into my memory with the first watch

I was never remotely mad about Moonlight crashing the top 100, or Get Out or etc.

I love One Way or Another. And like Nostalgia for the Light, Headless Woman, and Sambizanga quite a bit, too.

My regard for The Will Be Blood--and it took two or three viewings--goes well beyond the things I like about it as a film. On a very personal level, I recognize a not particularly admirable part of myself--this consuming, sometimes destructive competitiveness--in Daniel Plainview. I'm very moved when he explains all that to his fake brother.
