Le Bonheur, Sunrise or The Birds

or something, Friday, 8 September 2023 22:23 (one year ago)

all of those are great, as are Black Girl, Wanda, In Vanda’s Room, The Headless Woman

still haven't seen Sambizanga, Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks, or The Watermelon Woman

Dan S, Friday, 8 September 2023 22:57 (one year ago)

I'm stunned Sunrise got scotched

City of Sadness over In Vanda's Room, though neither is exactly a fun night at the movies, even for my tastes.

Halfway there but for you, Saturday, 9 September 2023 15:39 (one year ago)

Another TWBB vote from me. Sorry not sorry.

I've only seen 11 or possibly 12 (can't remember if I watched Orlando or not).

I voted Black Girl. I'm not always into naturalism, but that movie is lethally concise

rob, Saturday, 9 September 2023 16:05 (one year ago)

A lot of great movies on that list, but I'm shocked "Sunrise" was ignored.

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 9 September 2023 16:17 (one year ago)

I've been wanting to watch it, but as long as I've been looking A City of Sadness has not been available on streaming or on dvd in the US

Dan S, Saturday, 9 September 2023 21:48 (one year ago)

SHOAH baby, SHOAH

Josefa, Saturday, 9 September 2023 22:05 (one year ago)

I watched A City of Sadness in 2018 or '19 on YouTube.

the dreaded dependent claus (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 9 September 2023 22:09 (one year ago)

As much as Sunrise deserves to run this table, I voted Black Girl

in the absence of an ability to vote for kung fu hustle im spoiling my vote

I voted Black Girl. I'm not always into naturalism, but that movie is lethally concise

Exactly my thought, it does so much with so little. My vote too, tho could have easily gone with Sunrise, Pandora’s Box, Johnny Guitar or The Headless Woman.

A lot of amazing films here!

Voted Symbiopsychotaxiplasm. One of my very favorite films.

Honorable mentions to Black Girl and Videodrome

Flipping a coin between Wanda and Videodrome

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 18 September 2023 05:01 (one year ago)

I know Sunrise deserves this, but I’m voting for Moonlight. It’s a movie that doesn't seem to be well-liked here but it is one of those films about queer identity that has burned itself into my memory with the first watch

Dan S, Monday, 18 September 2023 23:01 (one year ago)

I was never remotely mad about Moonlight crashing the top 100, or Get Out or etc.

More L’avventuras c. ‘62 please

50 Best Fellas (Eric H.), Tuesday, 19 September 2023 02:43 (one year ago)

Moonlight is lovely, it's just got a lot of competition in this poll.

Daniel_Rf, Tuesday, 19 September 2023 10:43 (one year ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Thursday, 28 September 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

Apparently I had the opportunity to change my vote, but stuck with Black Girl

50 Best Fellas (Eric H.), Thursday, 28 September 2023 15:38 (one year ago)

johnny guitar but looks like it's getting a vote so gonna make sure videodrome doesn't get blanked

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Friday, 29 September 2023 00:01 (one year ago)

Every film on the other two polls got at least one vote, leaving those that got zero votes here truly unloved (or, frankly, probably unseen). I'd vote for Headless Woman of the unredeemed zeroes here (assuming we're not going to drag them through another round).

Halfway there but for you, Friday, 29 September 2023 00:18 (one year ago)

Not unloved! It's just the nature of polls.

I love One Way or Another. And like Nostalgia for the Light, Headless Woman, and Sambizanga quite a bit, too.

Cherish, Friday, 29 September 2023 00:43 (one year ago)

I've only seen four of the ones that got zero votes. Of those I would also pick The Headless Woman over Nostalgia For the Light

Dan S, Friday, 29 September 2023 00:47 (one year ago)

There will always be one

it'll always be him

clemenza, Friday, 29 September 2023 00:55 (one year ago)

Dan S, Friday, 29 September 2023 01:02 (one year ago)

My regard for The Will Be Blood--and it took two or three viewings--goes well beyond the things I like about it as a film. On a very personal level, I recognize a not particularly admirable part of myself--this consuming, sometimes destructive competitiveness--in Daniel Plainview. I'm very moved when he explains all that to his fake brother.
