Boats

Tomorrow I have to board a boat with 80 or so co-workers to go on some ill-concieved pre-Christmas joviality cruise about Auckland harbour for 3 hours with them. How do I let myself get talked into taking part in these things? I can see that leaping overboard will be the preferred option after half an hour and I only hope I will be able to make it to shore. I hate boats. You?

your employer takes you on a cruise? that sounds pretty sweet to me.

This thread has taken a weird turn.
Boats are fantastic, untill they sink. I hope for your sake the cruise features a smorgasbord with an ice sculpture. They're groovy.
Last time I went on a cruise we danced on the roof. The captain yelled out of his bridge below for us to stop. Then we were deposited in the wilds of some endless Moscow suburb at 3am. *And* there was no beer left.

i would like to be on a boat. but only if its a small wooden one, or if its metal it should be rusting. if its run aground on the shores of the aral sea, even better. otherwise, the wash, on the lincolnshire side

canoeing is godlike. all other boats suck. i went on a two week alaskan cruise when i was like 15 w. my dad and it was so boring, all you could do was eat.

anthony easton (anthony), Friday, 22 November 2002 16:55 (twenty-three years ago)

man, you people are all on crack. boats rock - on every level. i love boats of every kind. the only kind of boats i dont like are the kind that kill fish for eating.

but being stuck for several hours in an enclosed space with people from yer office = MAJOR DUD.

Cor you can tell I am a child of the eighties as I was convinced Gazza was from Newcastle, merely cos he's called Gazza.

I can't row boats. Chiz. It is just an impossibility. I need some kind of rowing simulator. Rowing machines just are not the same. I did get badly scratched up once on a boat in a beautiful park in NOttingham.

one year passes...
Can you get baots across the ocean anymore? Like in the olden days before aeroplanes when people had travel trunks instead of suit cases and sat on deckchairs and doffed their caps to passing ladies with parasols . I mean can you get a ship from say Liverpool to St.Johns Newfoundland? I tried googling for info, but all I can find is lame sounding cruises, which take far too long and cost way too much. It can't take more than 4 days to travel a couple of thousand miles, surely?

This question inspired by looking at National Geographic Atlas (great book!) and sudden willingness to travel beyond Ealing.

a baot would probably just sink, I realise this.

BOATS

I see lots of boat activity from my workplace/office. Ferries, water taxis, Beasts, cruise ships, sloops (!) and fireboats.

But I just saw something new - a Staten Island ferry heading up the Hudson River. Wtf?

I'd like to own a boat.

I'm bad and dirty and going to hell (nordicskilla), Monday, 27 June 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

This morning, as I was going over Waterloo Bridge on a bus, I thought how much it would be to go and have dinner/drinks on one of those boats tied up by the Embankment for just such said purposes.

Next time I get asked to go for drinks somewhere, I'm going to insist it has to be on a boat.
