please baby please (if it counts)
john wick 4
knock at the cabin

ivy., Tuesday, 7 November 2023 15:56 (two years ago)

I think it counts. I recall it was tough to catch in theaters.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:03 (two years ago)

Never heard of Eyeballs in The Darkness or Please Baby Please. Knock at the Cabin was way better than I was expecting

My top 3

Asteroid City (I wasnt keen on recent Wes but I really loved this)
How to Blow Up A Pipeline
Return to Seoul

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:06 (two years ago)

Cette Maison
No Bears
Magic Mike's Last Dance

soup of magpies (geoffreyess), Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:06 (two years ago)

killers of the flower moon
past lives
infinity pool

but i haven't yet been able to see most of the 2023 movies interested in (fallen leaves, poor things, american fiction, anatomy of a fall, the zone of interest, may december, priscilla, la chimera, meus-plaisirs les troisgros, youth (spring), club zero, etc...)

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:07 (two years ago)

Same. It feels like a lot of stuff is about to start screening/streaming right around the same time. American Fiction & Zone of Interest are out in December, May December is super limited right now.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:15 (two years ago)

Oppenheimer
Reality

These are the only new films I've seen this year. Hoping to see Killers of the Flower Moon in the next few weeks.

lord of the rongs (anagram), Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:16 (two years ago)

De Humani Corporis Fabrica
All of Us Strangers
Showing Up

Dwigt Rortugal (Eric H.), Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:16 (two years ago)

(Two of those technically 2022 movies, obv, but I'll play by the rules of the game at this point in the year)

Dwigt Rortugal (Eric H.), Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:19 (two years ago)

i did my best with de humani corporis fabrica as i truly love castaing-taylor and paravel's other movies, but medical gore makes me pass out

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:23 (two years ago)

showing up would be top 3 for me as well if we're considering it 2023

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:24 (two years ago)

Swap in Passing Time and You Hurt My Feelings if we're doing strict "premiered in 2023" lists

Dwigt Rortugal (Eric H.), Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:31 (two years ago)

Rye Lane
Across the Spider-Verse
Pamfir

Piedie Gimbel, Tuesday, 7 November 2023 16:36 (two years ago)

I think it should be fine to observe premiere dates outside of fest screenings, so Showing Up works.

billstevejim, Tuesday, 7 November 2023 21:29 (two years ago)

two weeks pass...

showing up was incredible

ivy., Tuesday, 21 November 2023 23:02 (two years ago)

Indeed.

stuffing your suit pockets with cold, stale chicken tende (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 22 November 2023 00:04 (two years ago)

Yeah, one of my favorites from this year.

Also Killers of the Flower Moon, The Boy and the Heron, Allensworth, R.M.N. and May December would probably figure in there too. Plenty more coming out in the next month - Frederick Wiseman's new film opens tomorrow.

I was hoping Evil Does Not Exist would open theatrically this year (it has overseas and it's been playing in American film festivals) but at this point, I think it's going to be out next year.

Menus-Plaisirs Les Troisgros

Watched How to Blow Up a Pipeline, going in my top ten.

what are some of the world cinema arthouse heavy hitters of the year? Fallen Leaves, Evil Does Not Exist, El Conde, The Delinquents, anything else?

Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 30 November 2023 16:42 (two years ago)

Pamfir (Ukraine)
Afire (Germany)
Broker (Japan/ South Korea)

Piedie Gimbel, Thursday, 30 November 2023 17:27 (two years ago)

Was tempted to start a thread on the Argentinian El Pampero Cine film collective, who I am seriously intrigued by, but thought it might be too niche for ilx2023 :(

after finally watching may december, it has got to knock out one of my top 3. i guess how to blow up a pipeline. though may december/asteroid city/showing up feels like a fairly unprovocative top 3.

na (NA), Monday, 11 December 2023 18:35 (two years ago)

I haven't seen very many, but I guess it would be Killers of the Flower Moon, Anatomy of a Fall, and Asteroid City.

o. nate, Monday, 11 December 2023 19:27 (two years ago)

Menus-Plaisirs Les Troisgros
De Humani Corporis Fabrica
The Delinquents

Swap May December in and move the corpse movie back to 2022 where it belongs

stephen miller is not your friend (Eric H.), Monday, 11 December 2023 19:52 (two years ago)

I'm also swapping May December in place of Beau Is Afraid.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 13 December 2023 02:30 (two years ago)

Yay!

stuffing your suit pockets with cold, stale chicken tende (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 13 December 2023 03:02 (two years ago)
