A hot air balloon made me unspeakably happy this morning

Yup. This morning I was on the way to my job interview, and there was a black hot air balloon hanging right near the flatirons, and it made me way happier than I would have ever expected. Are things like this relieving--that you can find joy in something so idiotic, or is it alarming? This seems to happen to me a lot: I'll get totally gleeful over the thought of seals balancing beachballs on their noses, or tickled at the sight of coordinating ketchup and mustard bottles. This could mean one of two things: I am way rad, or totally stupid. Anyhow, share your thoughts. What silly things do you get really excited over?

New idiotic answers, please!

Mandee, Friday, 22 November 2002 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I saw the most beautiful rainbow EVAH this afternoon. The moment was spoiled for me only because I couldn't find my bluddy camera in time to capture the moment.

you are way rad. It is the best when you can find magic everywhere.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 22 November 2002 20:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Even in coordinating ketchup & mustard bottles?

Mandee, Friday, 22 November 2002 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

i get happy about ridiculous things every day, and i got all joyful at the sight of sunlight coming in my kitchen window at a particular angle yesterday. it glimmered so nicely on the fishbowl and my fish swam up to look at me when i walked near, so i kidded myself that they like me and it made me smile even more.

When I used to live in Bristol, there was a magical day once a year, some hot air balloon convention nearby, and I'd look out the window that day, expecting the same dreary sky, and see dozens and dozens of balloons of all colours and several shapes.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 22 November 2002 20:52 (twenty-three years ago)

you are way rad.

on my way back from school today rain was drying so there was mist and steam everywhere, at the same time as the sun was setting, and it was quite lovely. that's not really a stupid thing though. i don't see the stuff mentioned in the question as stupid in general, there's wonderful things all over!

Maria (Maria), Friday, 22 November 2002 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

This is so not rad, but - for some reason, the bit at the beginning of Frasier when the Seattle skyline's outline is drawn on the screen - that comforts me more than anything.

Weird.

I didn't get really excited [AT ALL] but I liked it when I saw that your sister's AIM icon was a red condom and a yellow condom. and I still liked it even when I realised it was actually a tomato ketchup bottle and a mustard bottle.

These things happen all the time. Not when going somewhere, but when returning home and I have lots of time I notice everyhing from peoples strange comments on the bus to strange reflections of light.

Yesterday I was happy because I found an Interpol and an Ivory Coast posters in the free bin at the local record store.

the picture of jel and cake!

two years pass...
I saw one yesterday. It also made me feel totally uplifted, buoyant, other floating synonyms for happy. It was kind of far away, but you could still see the flame going off, looking like a small orange scratch next to the dark blue balloon fabric. It floated away over the hills of Godalming.

Small stuff like this makes me happy otherwise I think I'd go crazy.

Yesterday we saw a bizarre black (really very dirty rainbow) kite flapping about in the magnetic storms around giant electricity pylons. That was quite cool.

I thought kite + pylons = public information film about to happen!

lock robster (robster), Monday, 11 April 2005 08:25 (twenty years ago)

No, that's only the Anglers who start buzzing with electricity and leap up into the air with wiggly lines coming from their heads.

Adherents of the Repeated Kate (kate), Monday, 11 April 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

it was totally a goth kite! they were practicing for the er day when they are ready to fly it at night!

I miss when Jon was hot.air.balloon!

I love STUFF, of course.

While eating a $125 steak at a boxing match I started filming my table and in the background I saw possibly the cutest girl EVER. Sorry the quality is shit but honestly she looked like a combination of (this season's) Jack Bauer's g/f (Kim Raver), his last season's daughter (Elisha Cuthbert (who went to the same high school as my little brother and was apparently mean as hell)), and Samantha Mathis circa Pump Up The Volume (talk hard).

LeCoq (LeCoq), Monday, 11 April 2005 09:42 (twenty years ago)

Fuck that I have to sleep now but tomorrow I can get my computer guy to reedit that and sharpen it up so you can fully appreciate that butterscotch ass. I'll up some footy I got today of the world halfpipe championships too, which contains some of myy crew's new slang you guys haven't heard yet eg. "jumbotron" = hot chick alert, "hot franks" = really nice tan smooth not-too-muscular arms of girls that look like perfectly tubular, warm hot dogs in the sun.

LeCoq (LeCoq), Monday, 11 April 2005 09:51 (twenty years ago)

Oops I forgot you can also use it for tan legs too. Hot franks!

LeCoq (LeCoq), Monday, 11 April 2005 09:52 (twenty years ago)

Cute girl. Nice right hook too.

Johnney B (Johnney B), Monday, 11 April 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

hi guys!

Open your eyes; you can fly! (ex machina), Monday, 11 April 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

I get giddy over lots of everyday things. Right now, I'm excited because I went outside for a second to bring in the paper (at work). Those few seconds in the sun were very appreciated.
