Yet this: a "" disturbs me on a very deep level. Why will I accept one, but not the other? Is this crossing the line between fantasy and identity theft/stalking? Where do you draw the line?

Yeah, I can understand that. I'm just curious as to why one makes me hot, and the other makes me feel creepy and cold, what does that say about my boundaries?
(Sorry, I've just left Jules and Nicky fucking in a bathroom somewhere...)

I had no idea that such things were going on. Celebrity cultcha has taken a very dark turn at livejournal. The internet is starting to scare me.

This celebrity impersonation stuff is much more disturbing. It's hard for me to imagine that these folks are doing this as a creative endeavor; it's got to me more about the desire for fame and envy and loss of identity into the character being portrayed. Maybe I'm just being stupid, but it seems like anyone who does that stuff has to be mentally unhinged in a very specific why-can't-I-be-you sort of way.

Even in fanficts that are written first person in the role of the popstar (like that delicate cutters Julian slash I just read) it's still very much the author coming to grips with an aspect of their own personality that they can't face otherwise.
Celebrity impersonation on livejournal ... I dunno. Why is it scarier on the internet than, say, drag queens pretending to be Liza Minelli down the local Cabaret?
