Oh so very classic. I loved those panelists! Jamie Farr! Jaye P. Morgan! Artie Johnson! Who else? This show fascinated me as a kid.

At the Focus Group last Saturday, the rule was that after a song reached its halfway point, ten of us voting for termination meant it was cut off early. I said then that we needed a gong. It might have confused the people in the rest of the pub more.

the unknown comic = very classic

Jaye P Morgan flashing her breasts was the sole reason to see the movie version. But I hear they're making a movie of Chuck Barris's life.

Wasn't there some guy who would dance and people off stage would throw miscellaneous items on the floor around him? Meanwhile Chuck Barris would be off stage right in one of his funny hats going crazy dancing along with the guy...

The popsicle twins was the most obscene moment in my TV watching history

eight months pass...

Bizarre act I (vaguely) remember: A rock band, getting poised to play...the leader yells out a "1, 2, 3, 4!"...but then, rather than beginning a song, just keeps going "...5, 6, 7, 8, 9..." etc. while his bandmates do absolutely nothing. Can't remember how far he got (20s? 30s?) before being gonged.

Classic!

Gonna play my trombone! (What're you gonna do?)
Gonna play my trombone! (What're you gonna do?)
Gonna play my trombone! (What're you gonna do?)
Gonna play my trombone now!

Definite classic. The $1.98 Beauty Show, I'm not so sure.

The Gong Show Movie (not The Gong Movie, which I always thought would've made more sense) finally making its way to blu-ray on March 29. I've never seen it, but the plot synopsis makes it sound surprisingly like 8 1/2.

pitchforkian at best (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 24 February 2016 22:28 (ten years ago)

Thinking back on it, that's pretty much dead-on; Jaye P. Morgan gets what amounts to the Claudia Cardinale moment.

Criterion?

^BLURAY!

The film failed at the box office, not helped by its having opened on the same weekend as The Empire Strikes Back and The Shining. The film received a negative reaction, and was quickly withdrawn from theatrical release. Among the bad reviews at the time, George Burns, after seeing the movie, went on the record and said, "For the first time in 65 years, I wanted to get out of show business".[
