A Thread For Chronicling Awkward Ad Placements In Streaming Media

I was just talking about not having many issues with Ads on Prime over on Rolling Death Of Physical Media.

One funny exception was a month or so again when I was screening The Crow, which featured an quick break for a recruiting ad for the Navy/Air Force immediately after the scene where The Crow kills the junkie gang member by shoving several heroin syringes directly into his heart.

My favorite one so far has been this bit inserted into the Gilbert Gottfried podcast on Spotify (vintage episodes have way more modern ads than they used to). It was in the first episode with Bob Sagat, where a long discussion about Danny Thomas' supposed predilection for scat (not the Jazz vocal style BTW) is immediately followed without segue with the announcement "WELCOME TO THE ERAS TOUR!"--Disney+ apparently recently made a big ad buy without vetting where the ads were going.

On that tip, the first thing I screened on Prime after the mandatory Ad policy was adopted was Babylon*, and was disappointed that there wasn't a break after the pooping elephant bit.

*Figured, "Three Hours, how often will they break in?"--only before the feature, as it happened.

I don't have adblocker on YouTube, which has sent me Sandy Hook appeal PSAs on things like SNL and Midnight Special clips.

My all-time for this (not in streaming, but) was a Sacramento Bee article about the devastation of the wildfires of 2018, including people burned in their homes, in which their ad server placed a promotion for cremation services.

Something that annoys me-- we've got an Amazon Fire device on our tv and we have parental controls enabled. However when we load the home screen Amazon has begun autoplaying ads for its own stuff, including horror shows and films. Can't figure out how to stop it other than by immediately clicking down to the apps.

Kids In The Hall on Freevee kept giving me toys for toddlers. Algorithm was like "oh kids you say? i'm on it!"

five months pass...

Prime throwing on an ad for Landman immediately after a shot of a crow shooting up in a trashcan in Fritz The Cat (honestly any ad placement in this film is immensely awkward).
