last night, talking to a longtime (9 yrs or so) friend (who is a girl) about my current girlfriendlessness:

her (trying to cheer me up): "...and you're not *THAT* bad-looking.

now you might say i'm being really thin-skinned and oversensitive, but then again you didn't hear the intonation of "THAT". and there are few things worse than hearing the totally wrong words come out of the mouth of the person you suspect might understand you the best.

anyway, tell us the worst thing you heard about you in the oh two.

this is somewhat similar, but much worse, than what;s been happening to me and a friend i have: someone i'm actually attracted to, and have hooked up with once before (it was only because of "how emotional"ly close he was feeling to me at the time), who later told me that he's not attracted back to me and that it's "evreything" not just my body or face but all of it. and then he still has to point out to me evreyone else he's attracted to like when we go out and stuff, which is of course a normal thing for friends to do, but it just reinforces a sort of inadequacy of how he thinks of me as being that much less attractive (ie: uglier?) than all those people! he keeps pointing out people he'd want to hook up with, even though he's hooked up with me, not them...wtf...and last night he had the nerve to say his "tastes are expanding" now and that he likes all people of any race who "have good features" - well gee that makes the odd-featured me feel so dandy!

but your circumstance surely sounds harsher, i hope it doesnt affect your friendship. maybe hse's just the tactless type...who or what does she think is "goodlooking" anyway (ie what are her tastes like, which might give you some perspective of where she's coming from with comments like that)

my little dog has torn his cruciate ligament and has to have very expensive knee surgery and then will be barely allowed to move for six weeks, he is going to go mad with boredom:( it happened because he flings himself around like a trapeze artist, last night he did a huge flying celebratory leap off the bed and then he screamed upon landing and hasn't put that foot to the ground since. oh these rotten little heartbreakers.
