Would have thought Isak is viewed as long-term Salah replacement rather than a central striker, so for Liverpool just unsettling Isak and making it easier for Newcastle to let him go seems sensible enough.

Depending on Salah’s form and fitness they can afford to wait til next season or look to go again for him ahead of AFCON.

ekitike can play out wide too as can isak. with three fewer forwards than last year they really do need two. plus don't forget salah gonna be at afcon for a bit too.

and yeah, i would say salah might go next summer and isak is seen as a long-term replacement. it all looks like good planning to me if you take a long view.
