As a nearly lifelong Jerseyite (Jerseyoid?), I've never understood what the fuck Connecticut had to do with anything, so I probably gotta go with "Minisink," even though that sounds like a half-sized sink tucked into a utility closet.

i kind of hate the term 'chicagoland' but i've never lived there so it's not my call

as a native of westchester county, i can confirm that the first one (ny, nj, conn) is the only real tri-state area and the others are fake wannabes fakers

Wondering why "]Illinois-Indiana-Kentucky" doesn't get a nickname - forget it Jake, it's Brackettown.

It is striking how southern the Southernmost parts of Illinois are. Spent a week in Jacksonville once - they had a strong southern drawl and everything.

This long island native agrees with this and unperson's questioning of CT as well. I guess people from Fairfield county and Stamford commute into the city but I always thought that was weird. CT seems like a diff world.

Yep. I mean I'm sure they're diff but Eastchester/Bronxville etc have the same vibe as sw Conn for sure.

i've always been somewhat admiring of the border between delaware and pennsylvania. i just found out now it has a name - the 'twelve mile circle.' it dates back from the 1600s. hard to believe they had the tech to accurately survey out a circle back then but i guess they were pretty saavy.

To my mind the whole point of claiming to be a tri-state area is that you need three entire states to scrape together enough population to matter a damn. Therefore, Sioux City.

Artificial Island is geographically unusual since it contains one of two tiny pene-exclaves of the state of Delaware, which is created by the Delaware-New Jersey land border crossing the northern tip of the island, an area that is completely cut off from the rest of Delaware across the Delaware River to the west, and has no road connections to it. New Jersey is separated from Delaware by the Delaware River except for these two areas, which has a land border. The only land access to this exclave at the north tip of the island is from New Jersey.

This exclave was created as a result of the Twelve-Mile Circle, which was part of the resolution of the colonial-era Penn-Calvert Boundary Dispute among what would become the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and West Virginia.

The other exclave of Delaware is Finns Point north of Artificial Island, in Pennsville Township to the northwest of Fort Mott State Park, New Jersey.

In my youth in Chicago(land), there was a fantastic electronics supply store called 'Tri-State Electronics' that managed to be both the best such store in that tristate area (in my view) and also a clever pun, because one can have a tri-state electical circuit as well.

Sadly the roof collapsed in a snowstorm.
