Not that carpeted bathrooms are a thing anymore, but if they were, I'd bet that'd be the first thing to go...

I've said before that my ideal bathroom has a floor drain and is pitched for drainage and water-safe. I'm hosing that sucker down. Cleaning the bathroom was a frequent chore in my childhood including hand washing all the fixtures and the floors, and I'm never doing that again if I can help it.

what's your stance on stainless steel counters?

They're fine. A little too institutional for me. Maybe for one island or one worktop. But I'm not precious about countertop staining and discoloration--I like poured concrete and soapstone for looks. What I wouldn't do is put in butcher block for all work surfaces because it's neither stain- nor heat- nor water-proof.

I do feel strongly about under-mounting sinks. I never want to have a drop-in sink again.
