A selection of Star Trek: TOS episodes that I remember watching (on PBS?) as a young kid in the late 70s or early 80s while lying on my parents bed in the afternoon. These are not the best episodes (far from them) or the only ones I saw. They are just ones that I remember watching early on that made the biggest impression. Vote for your favorite, the best, the worst, most memorable, or make up your own criteria. Either "Shore Leave" or "Spectre of the Gun" was my first episode.

"Plato's Stepchildren" should read: "Mind control; interracial kiss; "Bitter Dregs"; a little person rides Kirk like a horse."

Shirtless Sulu with the rapier!

Nearly every episode on my list was mentioned as being one of the worst episodes.

Mind-altering parasites that look like rays infect Spock.

I didn't watch much ST when I was a kid but remember seeing this one and being terrified by it.

Yeah, the way they hung on the outside of the building creeped me out.

pedantic correction: it’s “Who Mourns For *Adonais*” (well actually etc)
title is a reference to a Percy Shelley poem

I weirdly enjoyed this ep even though it is deeply corny but also: GIANT SPACE HAND FTW

Shore Leave is my most hated episode but Squire of Gothos comes a close second

As mentioned above, I find it interesting that my taste/memory as a kid was so "bad". I put "bad" in quotes, because I love almost any TOS, the cheese is part of the charm.

It's really enjoyable to watch random TOS episodes because they did so many different things. Even the episodes where they did whatever Desilu's costume department had available are memorable and fun. I voted Arena but I could have easily gone with something like the Lincoln one, which I remember being a weak episode but also LINCOLN AND GENGHIS KHAN FIGHTING TOGETHER.

or each other. as it goes.

It dawned on me when summarizing Arena that it bears some similarity to a plot point in Blood Meridian.

Arena is awesome too

It's pretty clearly the best episode on my list, though not my favorite. I think I'm voting Plato's Stepchildren.

Watched The Squire Of Gothos the other night and found myself enjoying it more than I would've expected. Not my first viewing, but something captivating about that fucker and his Napoleon obsession.

First two, “Shore Leave” and “The Squire of Gothos” are the ones I get the most pure enjoyment out of remembering so one of those. But yeah, obviously it’s kind of subjective since cheesiness and other elements all part of the fun.

“Shore Leave” written by Theodore Sturgeon, iirc, like “Amok Time.”

I just saw Shore Leave, Squire of Gothos, and Arena in quick succession on TV. Arena might be the best, but also the least fun.

Last one based on a story by Fredric Brown.

The prominent rock formation is featured as fictional alien settings in four episodes of the original late 1960s Star Trek series, from which it gained the nickname "Kirk's Rock".

My first memory of Star Trek as a child was seeing Lincoln on a chair floating in space.
