not terribly surprising but not a good rd 1 for males of greek descent -- tsitsipas & kyrgios out

johnny crunch, Monday, 13 January 2025 14:33 (one year ago)

lol at these competing hats

mizzell, Monday, 13 January 2025 15:23 (one year ago)

Wow is that just an angle thing or is Kyrgios twice the size of that dude

DJP, Monday, 13 January 2025 15:28 (one year ago)

Honestly thought Kyrgios was retired, does he just play the Aussie for old time's sake?

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 13 January 2025 16:23 (one year ago)

do any beloved ILXors have advice for streaming these matches on the internet for free...? i have exhausted free trials of espn and the tennis channel

pitted (blue6ave), Tuesday, 14 January 2025 04:55 (one year ago)

Monfils, who became the oldest man to win an ATP title last week in Auckland (edging out Federer (Basel 2019)) takes down Mpetshi Perricard in four hours…and never faces a break point.

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 08:47 (one year ago)

(And I don’t have any streaming ideas. I think I watched the 2017 men’s final live on a betting website? Paid a fiver to open an account, never went back, something like that.)

Michael Jones, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 08:54 (one year ago)

fonseca in straights over rublev o_o

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 14 January 2025 12:14 (one year ago)

I love Muchova's game as much as anyone should, but Osaka was playing at a damn near unbeatable level in the second and third sets last night. Reminded me of when Wawrinka would just start red-lining during his major title runs, and for sure the best Osaka's played since she started her comeback.

jon_oh, Wednesday, 15 January 2025 22:50 (one year ago)

2:50am in Melbourne and Tien v Medvedev is still going.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 16 January 2025 15:50 (one year ago)

Learner Tien wins it, 10-7 in the t/b. Outlasted DM, won majority of the long rallies. (Now to wait for highlights)

Michael Jones, Thursday, 16 January 2025 15:56 (one year ago)

really great 5th set, tien had me standing and applauding in my living room

johnny crunch, Thursday, 16 January 2025 15:56 (one year ago)

such mettle to come back from a 3rd set match point to win in a 5th super tiebreak

johnny crunch, Thursday, 16 January 2025 15:57 (one year ago)

lotsa breaks back and forth but notably tien had to break meds at 5-6 5th set to even get to the match tiebreak

johnny crunch, Thursday, 16 January 2025 15:58 (one year ago)

He lost three straight points to drop serve after the rain/roof break, right? (Had to go on BlueSky to figure out why the score was stuck!) And yet broke straight back. Some great teen performances this week.

xp!

Michael Jones, Thursday, 16 January 2025 15:59 (one year ago)

tien/moutet to get to rd 4 !

johnny crunch, Thursday, 16 January 2025 16:03 (one year ago)

Reading about it rn. Looks like men's US tennis is very much back. Lots of talent.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 16 January 2025 17:18 (one year ago)

Svitolina-Monfils household had a great day! One of Monfils/Shelton/Sonego/Tien will be in the semis. Michelsen still going too.

Michael Jones, Saturday, 18 January 2025 10:48 (one year ago)

Swiatek is just incredible. Wonder if she has a record for the most bagels she hands over to other players

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 18 January 2025 11:14 (one year ago)

That's why she runs that bakery. What's 6-2? Pretzel? Doesn't really work.

Michael Jones, Saturday, 18 January 2025 12:34 (one year ago)

there was one epic point between Sinner and Rune

symsymsym, Monday, 20 January 2025 07:35 (one year ago)

Djoko Alcaraz one set all.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 12:33 (one year ago)

Exchanging breaks, might go all the way

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 12:44 (one year ago)

That was an insane rally from Djoko. Shame the man is the biggest cunt going. To serve for the 3rd set

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 12:48 (one year ago)

Fucking hell. Even Alcaraz smiled at that and he lost the set

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 12:55 (one year ago)

Djoko has driven home the advantage to break in the 4th set..

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 13:10 (one year ago)

That bp is taking everything from Djoko.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 13:14 (one year ago)

Just serving great, is Djoko..

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 13:31 (one year ago)

Insane rally for Alcaraz, eventually holds from that..

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 13:39 (one year ago)

0-30..

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 13:42 (one year ago)

2 bps. Alcaraz outlasting Djoko in the last couple of huge rallies.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 13:44 (one year ago)

Another incredible hold.

Just needs one more

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 13:48 (one year ago)

One mp..

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 13:56 (one year ago)

1 more chapter to his goat career, props novak

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 14:00 (one year ago)

Yeah, just incredible how he has stayed more than competitive.

Truly the greatest.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 14:02 (one year ago)

Djoko and all, but, I'm always sad to see Alcaraz leave a tourney. He's capable of such entertaining tennis.

tomorrow, Tuesday, 21 January 2025 18:54 (one year ago)

Guardian game by game has "Sinner bwats De Minaur", and I wonder which letter is wrong. A thrashing.

Curious thing about the Djokovic-Alcaraz rivalry is I think the favourite loses every time. No one expected Carlitos to beat Novak first time out in Rome, and I think he was underdog (if only slight second time) in both Wimb finals. Whereas he was favoured in that RG sf (when he cramped), Cincinnati (where ND was wilting in the heat), Turin (much better than Novak in the round robin), Olympic gold-medal match and yesterday.

Hard to know what to make of the semi vs Zverev. It's exactly the sort of match AZ would bottle, against a supposedly hampered opponent.

Michael Jones, Wednesday, 22 January 2025 11:29 (one year ago)

Keys won the 2nd set again Swiatek 6-1!! We are in the final set 2-2, 30-30

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:17 (one year ago)

Fantastic. Keys breaks!

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:20 (one year ago)

Lol got way overexcited as I just switched it on its on serve

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:25 (one year ago)

Swiatek misses a smash and is facing two bps..

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:33 (one year ago)

Holds. 4-4. Wonder if Keys will get another opportunity..

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:36 (one year ago)

Keys has gone on to save 3 bps. This is great stuff

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:39 (one year ago)

Some fantastic serving and hitting to hold

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:42 (one year ago)

Swiatek missed a FH for the break too..has to serve to stay in it

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:43 (one year ago)

Saved two of the next 3 bps but then a rally, and Keys decides on a drop shot and that's an easy pass for the break. Swiatek to serve.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:51 (one year ago)

Incredible from Keys. She did not back off and the pressure gets to Swiatek, who dfs.

Tie break

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 12:58 (one year ago)

Swiatek is a nose ahead..6-5

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 13:06 (one year ago)

7-7...just not giving in..

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 23 January 2025 13:09 (one year ago)

Rybakina fairly comfortable to win that 1st set.

Sabalenka in the match but she's grunting an awful lot to stay in it.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 09:23 (four days ago)

On the 6th deuce if this Ryba game..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 09:39 (four days ago)

That was some hold. Saved a ton of bps..Saba will have to keep that up.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 09:41 (four days ago)

5-4. Ryba serving to stay in the set

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:08 (four days ago)

3 x sps!!

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:11 (four days ago)

Poor game and we have a final set

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:12 (four days ago)

And an early break for Saba. Definite dip in the last ten mins..

Vast grand slam final experience being made to count here.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:27 (four days ago)

Break back point negotiated..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:31 (four days ago)

3-0. It would take a Saba meltdown for her to lose this.

In the end, Rybakina hasn't done a lot wrong, but Saba struck close to her and strangled Ryba the moment she weakened.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:33 (four days ago)

Ryba played an amazing game to break back. Final back on.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:40 (four days ago)

Wow another break Rybakina!

From 3-0 to 4-3. Total flip, that game was full of errors.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:50 (four days ago)

5-3 lol

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:55 (four days ago)

Saba stops the rot but Rybakina now to serve for the title

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 10:58 (four days ago)

30-30..

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 11:02 (four days ago)

One CP.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 11:02 (four days ago)

With an ace!! Awesome

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 11:03 (four days ago)

Love her nothing celebrations. Its like she did nothing at all lol

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 31 January 2026 11:12 (four days ago)

Not sure what vision makes it overseas but I'm *still* chuckling inside at the "the trophy has made it's way all around the state" <cue corny footage of trophy plonked somewhat precariously into vaguely picturesque locations> part of the presentation. Like it's a freakin' Olympic flame. Bless.

But yeah, more crucially: Rybakina is more than a little impressive innit.

Heavy, downy baby goose (Nag! Nag! Nag!), Sunday, 1 February 2026 01:14 (three days ago)

Djoko is playing great so far. And breaks!!

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:04 (three days ago)

Has already drawn out three bps and converted.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:04 (three days ago)

0-30 down but alcaraz recovers to keep to a break

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:12 (three days ago)

Djoko is unplayable rn. 2 sps

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:19 (three days ago)

Swatted Alcaraz. 6-2

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:20 (three days ago)

booooo

assert (matttkkkk), Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:21 (three days ago)

In that 1st game we got to deuce but it was a couple of errors and net cord from Djoko. Alcaraz cannot buy a line rn. On serve

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:28 (three days ago)

A lucky net cord in there but Alcaraz is playing a little better; Djoko a little more errors. 2 bps

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:34 (three days ago)

Poor game. Alcaraz breaks

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:35 (three days ago)

Just a few more errors from Djoko now...that was such a high level in the 1st set

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:41 (three days ago)

More errors from Djoko. And for sure, Alcaraz is serving better but he is under far less pressure now.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 09:51 (three days ago)

A set a piece.

Djoko serves it out at the third from 0-30. Would feel like a crucial hold but I think its delaying the inevitable.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 10:08 (three days ago)

How did Alcaraz get that back from Djoko's pass round the net!!

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 10:16 (three days ago)

And rightly enough Alcaraz breaks after a good hold. Should be good now.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 10:25 (three days ago)

fckn incredible rally just now

assert (matttkkkk), Sunday, 1 February 2026 10:30 (three days ago)

Yeah Alcaraz turning it on

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 10:31 (three days ago)

3rd set Billy Zane

assert (matttkkkk), Sunday, 1 February 2026 10:46 (three days ago)

Carlos one set away.

But playing mostly his age. Djoko can only play five matches top at a grand slam.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 10:49 (three days ago)

Constantly amazed at the shots Alcaraz gets to which should have been winners.

assert (matttkkkk), Sunday, 1 February 2026 10:59 (three days ago)

Djoko saved six bps to just win a game in the 4th set.

Surely it will be for nothing.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:05 (three days ago)

Djoko 0-30 down. Time to close this..

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:25 (three days ago)

Nope. Well served.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:28 (three days ago)

And now … ?!

assert (matttkkkk), Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:28 (three days ago)

Now, one bp

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:32 (three days ago)

Djoko made an UE at that point; Carlos smiled.

Went on to hold

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:35 (three days ago)

Djoko serving to take this to tb

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:43 (three days ago)

2 CP's..

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:48 (three days ago)

wowee

assert (matttkkkk), Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:48 (three days ago)

Carlos!!

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:49 (three days ago)

Nice

Boomkat Dildo (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:51 (three days ago)

Btw, since when has coaching been allowed? Felt that played a part in Rybakina's win yesterday where they seem to get her to play a bit more aggressively...

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 1 February 2026 11:54 (three days ago)

7 wins in the last 13 slams not too shabby

johnny crunch, Sunday, 1 February 2026 15:39 (three days ago)
