I remember seeing a political cartoon re: this at the time. Dave is saying, "HERE's a four-letter word for ya!" as he shoves a giant bar of SOAP into Madonna's mouth, which is plainly labeled SOAP.

its kind of funny how big a fuss was made over this considering Jon Stewart drops F-bombs that get bleeped almost nightly and The Late Show has a reacurring bit where a guy runs on stage screaming fuck you and flipping everyone off now.

At the time, it seemed like she was really fucking pissed off at how she was stratum one cannon fodder on the show. Which, given Madonna's demonstrated sensitivities to things like, oh, MP3s, makes a ton of sense now.
