other - selling off big chunks of my record collection, which is effectively my savings.

sleeve, Monday, 31 March 2025 18:17 (nine months ago)

i'm hoping to hear any onlyfans success stories but not counting on it.

plasma seems too good to be true but maybe it's really hard on your body? i don't know i've never done it.

imma be real i'd rather live on beans than work customer service or custodial at this point in my life.

glum mum (map), Monday, 31 March 2025 18:20 (nine months ago)

I’ve been thinking about plasma but I’m worried they’ll disqualify me somehow and I’ll be forced to confront poor health.

Actually looked at overnight custodial at a university for a main income source because I could just mop and look at a boom box but they strongly recommend being bilingual and I don’t think high school German counts.

papal hotwife (milo z), Monday, 31 March 2025 18:24 (nine months ago)

I did custodial and janitorial work for a summer, back in my 20s. It was the type of work that everybody should probably do at least once in their life, not that I enjoyed it or would ever do it again but I’m glad I did it.

omar little, Monday, 31 March 2025 18:28 (nine months ago)

I am presently however, “too old for that shit”

omar little, Monday, 31 March 2025 18:28 (nine months ago)

i also did custodial during college, didn't hate it, one of my better menial gigs. i was working that job when 9/11 happened. my boss, a maga type before maga was a thing, called us in to her office to watch the tv.

glum mum (map), Monday, 31 March 2025 18:31 (nine months ago)

My only never-go-back is restaurant/bar work because I’ll start smoking again and now American Spirits are like $17 a pack.

papal hotwife (milo z), Monday, 31 March 2025 18:35 (nine months ago)

i have genuinely considered starting an onlyfans but it feels like a recipe for receiving harassment every day

ivy., Monday, 31 March 2025 18:39 (nine months ago)

I found that custodial was ok-ish, except the shift started at midnight and that was slow death by sleep deprivation.

should be easy enough with your puzzle solving bona fides

glum mum (map), Monday, 31 March 2025 18:59 (nine months ago)

I've been broke enough to give plasma.

I think I could do Lyft/Uber or delivery if needed.

For a lot of these it would be a better investment for me to spend the time jobhunting and/or freelancing.

I pity the foo fighter (Ye Mad Puffin), Monday, 31 March 2025 19:07 (nine months ago)

I nearly monetised that to the tune of £250 I’ll have you know!

i've had a lot of restaurant jobs in my life, both back and front of house, and have considered doing it again. does this fall under customer service? work is work, but i've found certain restaurant gigs to be at least somewhat fun/interesting, whereas having to work at e.g. target sounds like my idea of hell

re: lyft/ubder, i don't think i could ever tolerate having strangers ride in the back seat of my car.

budo jeru, Monday, 31 March 2025 19:21 (nine months ago)

i hated food service and customer service and would never willingly return to either. in both cases i was either subject to the whims of sociopathic bosses or shitty customers who got paid significantly more than me

ivy., Monday, 31 March 2025 19:26 (nine months ago)

Remember when Fiverr was going to let everyone with a creative ability make some extra income with their Photoshop skillz?

Can't imagine what AI horrors have taken root there.

i know - i'll start a blog

papal hotwife (milo z), Monday, 31 March 2025 19:36 (nine months ago)

Now see that’s the type of onlyfans content that might get you some cash just for its sheer novelty

omar little, Monday, 31 March 2025 19:51 (nine months ago)

it's a metaphysical glory hole

papal hotwife (milo z), Monday, 31 March 2025 20:00 (nine months ago)

It wouldn't be part time, but recently some erstwhile chilxors and I were discussing court reporting, which apparently is in high demand and training is free. Starting salary in Cook County is north of 70k.

selling personal belongings is something i’ve resorted to also. i wish i could afford to trash or donate all of it but these are my only tangible assets. we never talk about having to live with the detritus of your own past as one of the annoying things about not having enough money or employment. i feel like there are also unpaid labor hours involved.

doe on a hill (Deflatormouse), Monday, 31 March 2025 22:29 (nine months ago)

id get a white van

1/3 mobile dog grooming
1/3 lift n deliver service
1/3 hanging out in my white van

tuah dé danann (darraghmac), Monday, 31 March 2025 22:46 (nine months ago)

recently in desperation i sullied up my YouTube algorithm watching terrible dumbass videos about “ez part time remote jobs”… the mythical Digital Asset Taxonomist gigs sound hella sweet to me (renaming files, making folders and stuff for offices with really messy file systems)

not strictly custodial but i do something like that now! slow death is putting it strongly imo but it is like living in a simultaneously occurring underworld or something

^nodding off is the one thing i must never do at work if i want to keep my job! that's the real challenge.

simultaneously occurring underworld

"purgatory" is more accurate

applied for a custodian job with the Post Office - the pay is decent enough for me ($44k), apparently it's the cushiest job in the entire organization and you can rapidly move up the career ladder with more tests for maintenance jobs

papal hotwife (milo z), Monday, 14 April 2025 04:03 (nine months ago)

two steps up is the maintenance tech position focusing on mail sorting machinery and that pays ~$73k to start which would honestly make me feel like I was rich

I missed voting on this but my current side job is Other - pet sitting. I like it because I can be particular about who I take on as clients - small non-energetic dogs and cats generally, with indulgent but very chill owners. It has custodial elements but mainly I spend a lot of time on other people's couches giving skritches to critters while reading.
