Still haven't seen the first one

Just found out Stephen Lang is still the antagonist in these sequels and as a Na'vi?! Am I the only one who is tired of Colonel Miles Quaritch? Thought he brought down the first film a bit and is basically a hollow, trope filled villain forced into the story, and now he's forced into these sequels? I was hoping Cameron would take some risks and have more breadth of themes in these sequels but I'm guessing they're going to basically recycle the initial film's plot - was this true with Way of the Water?

four weeks pass...

within three minutes I could see exactly why Roger Dean sued over these movies. the entire universe seems to take place in the land of Yes album covers, though ironically it's Jon's Olias of Sunhillow that most came to mind which is one Dean didn't do. regardless James Cameron is a real one for this.

haven't actually seen the first two so I had to kind of piece together what was happening, didn't get what the deal was with that little white rasta dude who was jumping around all the time, regardless I was pretty entertained. even though it felt like it went on for about seven hours

Good AVClub essay on this movie as sort of backwards looking Western. The first one was, that's for sure. Dances With Smurfs.

I was expecting this movie to be more of a CGI showcase, like how the second movie seemed written to showcase underwater mo-cap and other tech. There wasn't much in the way of new tech, or even new designs. That leaves a lot on the actors, story, dialogue which have never been a highlight of this series. Still, watchable, enjoyable, but not as much as the first two

some discussion here the other day The _Avatar_ sequel, presumably also directed by James Cameron

Saw the first two and enjoyed them well enough, no desire to sit through more of this unless the kids demand it. I’m bummed that Cameron has shackled himself to these amazing screensaver movies, when he’s capable of better things.

Is he? At this point? He's really good at making money, but I'm trying to think of the last thing with his name on it that I would want to see again. T2?

Rewatched Titanic kinda recently and it held up surprisingly well. Not a great movie, but better than Avatar.

He works better with limitations.

Cow_Art, Wednesday, 31 December 2025 22:58 (one month ago)

Titanic is fine, but I don't want to see it again. Since then, Avatars and produced stuff?
