A request to the lords of ILE

Is it possible that very long threads could be split up automatically when they reach a certain number of posts, 50 or so. Threads on the contents page could be something like:

    thread
    2
    3

It should help the server stay afloat. The server wouldn't have to put out 600+ posts every time certain threads are clicked and it will help those with modems get to the end of threads quickly.

it's an automatic discussion killer is the downside, unfortunately

Does this make me, mark and graham the lords of ile?

In order to be a lord of ILE you must like Slayer, so that counts jel out.

I have a suggestion. In lieu of the unread messages thing, how about a 'set marker' function which you could click whenever you're about to leave ILX?

ie. if I set my marker upon leaving at 5:55pm today and came back at 9pm, then any threads with messages posted *after* 5:55pm could be somehow distinguished as new (via colour, separator, whatever)

is this actionable/worthwhile?

Not really any less complicated, sorry.
