Favorite U.S. long weekend

Only half of these are actually long weekends for me

I chose Memorial Day but really, any long weekend that allows me to be away from work and lower my blood pressure is awesome

Thanksgiving--I usually have to use annual leave to cover Black Friday but the 4-day weekend is worth it to me.

is it just me or do the patriotic weekends bring out .. intense energy? while labor day and mlk weekend are more chill?

everywhere outside is crowded so i end up just staying home, more or less. i live for skipping out of town the weekend before or after a holiday weekend though. i love doing two long weekends in a row with a very short week in between.

i'm voting mlk because i'm always in desperate need of a little break in the middle of january.

not sure when/if i've ever had presidents' weekend off. juneteenth and caesar chavez day were both holidays at my last employer.

yep. there's also a lot of flag-waving which can feel kind of sinister to me. xp

I also vote for the 4-day Thanksgiving break, if one can swing it. (My first few decades in journalism, I worked Thanksgiving more often than not, so I especially appreciate it now.)

Memorial weekend tends towards the chill side in South Florida -- lots of people leave town. The heat's been especially unbearable the last 10 days.

I'm killing time before a pool party.

Monday holidays just mean that my paycheck comes in on Friday, not Tuesdays, which means that I have a week and a half before getting paid the next time instead of a week. It's awful. At least I don't have the client who went home every holiday for a week or two any more.

My husband's doctor sent in a badly needed inhaler prescription that turned out to not be covered by his insurance, and they're closed until Tuesday. Also, the client that I usually work with on Mondays went down to one day a week because she can't deal with the heat in the van that I can't afford to fix the air conditioning in and can't afford to trade in for a new one--it won't be going back up to two days again until it gets cool again in November. Fuck holidays and fuck summer.
