Who in this bitch likes Robin?

Yeah, the Batman character. I think Robin is where it's at - he doesn't have to actually fight, he gets cool clothes and a mask, he hangs in the Batcave and Batmobile for free. I mean, what more do you want?

Ally, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You don't mean the Chris O'Donnel 'interpretation' do you? Cos that was SHIT!

Boy Wonder my arse.

DavidM, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Which version are we talking about here? The original one, the current one, the TV series one, the movie one, the Dark Knight one, the dead one, or the cartoon one? Because they all get different answers.

Those answers are: rock, bland, goofy, murderkill, RAWK, oops, and nope.

Dan Perry, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought the Shakespeare thread should have been titled "WHO IN THIS BITCH LIKE SHAKESPEARE?!!??

Anway, Robin? Eh! Never done much for me. The Batman movies and animated TV shows were allowed to explore much darker themes when B- Man wasn't trailed by an adolescent. I didn't really read the comic books, so I can't comment there. I agree he does have it easy, but where's the drama in that?

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's just it, you can't go from drama to Robin.

Otis Wheeler, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I never thought of that angle, the lack of drama. I just thought it'd really kick ass to wear pimp gear and sit around doing nothing. The lack of drama is bad though.

Robin should be replaced by the Riddler.

Ally, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Since Robin obviously gets to dress up and ride free daily, without having to fight, because of the, uh, Wayne Mansions accommodation-if-you-know-what-I'm- saying, whereby bachelor Bruce W. gets to dress up and "ride free" nightly, without having to fight, seems to *me* it would be perfectly possible to INJECT drama and keep Robin. But mine is perhaps a minority perspective...

mark s, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

What an anti-climax. I thought this thread would be about Robin Carmody!

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i had a friend that used to think batman/robin were secretly gay lovers..and im sure i could find loads of Slash storys..

kevin enas, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

robin has the cutest crotch, tho batman's got more pecs. Alfred always did it for me tho.

Geoff, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Would you believe there was a furor back in the 50s & 60s over the supposedly subversive connotations of Robin's relationship with Batman? I think that's about the time that they made Batman into Sci- Fi Monster Fighter Man (which didn't really work, for my tastes).

And since when is a pseudo Peter Pan outfit w/ poncey elf shoes and a big fan R over one's left breast considered "cool"? I'd rather be dressed like Vanilla Ice - the star-spangled outfit, if you please.

David Raposa, Wednesday, 20 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, I'd totally wear that outfit, what are you talking about?

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Man, you really shouldn't drink - your fashion sense goes out with the dirty linen. But, hey - if you think you can pull off lime green leotards with a crimson red tunic and those damn boots, feel free. Don't forget the codpiece, though.

Now, Catwoman - THAT'S stylish. And practical, too - no cape. (But, damn it, I sound like the comic book geek from _The Simpsons_ now. Ach. Someone pass me my Slurpee, please?)

David Raposa, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'll stick by the Joker's name for Robin: "The Boy Hostage". Clambering over rooftops - on a school night? Give me the unsurprisingly drug taking Speedy anytime.

Pete, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I already am Catwoman, that's played out, that's very yesterday. I need some color in my life. Robin has color.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

marcello, what a great and potentially mortifying idea! take a ile poster and ask: classic or dud? sort of like am i cool or not but based on personality and thought and writing skill.

fred solinger, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, I have a comment but I so do not want to spoil something that's this week and this week only online - is this cryptic enough or am I still going to get my ass kicked?

Anyhow, I propose that if we do that, it should definitely be me, the first "So-and-So: Classic or Dud?" thread.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You wrote that knowing full well a "Fred Solinger: Classic or Dud?" would be posted by the end of the day, didn't you?

Nicole, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Allison Kearney: CoD?

mark s, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm done with the dissing Fred thing, that's so last year now. I'd say classic because he goes on wildman benders behind the scenes.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OH AND CAN PEOPLE IN THIS BITCH STOP CALLING ME ALLISON IT'S NOT MY NAME BECAUSE I HATE IT THANK YOU.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm done with the dissing Fred thing, that's so last year now.

I was asking Fred, because it seemed like he wanted to set himself up for one. Dissing Fred is kind of old now, I prefer torture with bad simian puns. Will it work? I will have to wait and see.

Nicole, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

you know, it's a good thing no one on these message boards actually reads freaky trigger!

fred solinger, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I did read it, it left me with a headache.

Loads of great articles! However, there was also one confusing article and one that I thought was just horrific and vile. That's the thing about the article response section -- you can't really tell someone their article is horrific and vile.

Nicole, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nicole: it's alright, you can tell me. i can take it.

if one were to judge strictly by the article response threads, you'd think NO ONE was reading. ;)

i've got a zinger for the new am i cool or not, though. heh heh heh.

fred solinger, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay. Fred. If I have to keep quiet, you have to keep quiet for god's sake.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It wasn't you (for once)! The problem I find sometimes with the article response is besides, "hey! this is great!" there's very little to add. When there is the odd occasion where I come across an article I have a real problem with, I'm not going to tell the author what I think because it could be taken as a personal insult, or just too critical in general. And I'd probably get accused of being a hysterical female anyway.

Nicole, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Who was it, then? Now you've got me really curious, and I'm going to go and re-read all the articles...

masonic boom, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am personally insulted that no one ever insults me in my article response threads.

Otis Wheeler, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, I'm sure if I name the article it wouldn't get back to the author within the space of 5 minutes. ;-)

Nicole, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sorry Otis, there's nothing to really insult you over. The Third Door is very good.

I could call you a chucklehead if it will make you happy though.

Nicole, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, Otis gets all uppity when I insult him, then comes and begs for insults. WHat's that about, you moron?

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm not uppity, whore, and don't call me a moron.

Being called a chucklehead makes me happy.

Otis Wheeler, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I will call you a moron whenever I want, fuckface. Whatcha gonna do, whack me with a walking stick?

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, that was the plan.

Otis Wheeler, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

BIFF!
POW!
CRASH!
SKR-ZAP!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I know that was the plan, you weren't supposed to TELL people that was our plan. Telling them makes it unshocking when you do it. Jesus, man.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

As if anyone would be shocked to see me whacking you with a stick.

Otis Wheeler, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You're right, not after the whore incident.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It's too bad there were no sticks handy that night.

Otis Wheeler, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That really would've been the only way to improve the story. I mean, no one believes it happened as is, but if you started beating me with a stick it'd definitely be unbelievable and rock. Especially since I probably would've hurled my drink in your face and maced you.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

MACE!

Dan Perry, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You should've just maced me regardless. That would've been shocking. And it was what I was going for, besides.

Otis Wheeler, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

If I had remembered I had it, I would've. That would've been the funniest shit to go down ever.

Ally, Thursday, 21 June 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

twelve years pass...

are they gonna make a movie based on joseph gordon-levitt as robin (or "nightwing") or put him as that character into the new superman v. batman movie or whatever? crucial questions imo.
