now w mixed doubles gimmick

I missed that they made mixed doubles really weird, wow

such a huge fuck you to actual mixed doubles players. one of the big 4 events of the year turned into an exhibition where top singles players already rolling in cash can have some hits and giggles.

clearly a fuck you to doubles players (only moreso if/when other majors adopt this) but honestly ppl by and large dont go to tour events to see doubles, doubles is subsidized by singles & this gives fans a chance to see the top players in a quasi real setting w/o paying an arm and a leg

honestly what they shouldve done was dramatically increase the mens and womens double purse per round to offset this a bit and appease doubles specialists.. idk maybe that happened not sure

defending champs errani/vavassori cruise into the semis, maybe theyll take down the $ and theres some justice in the world

as an aside i didnt get round to posting about it in the general tennis thread but victoria mboko's whole run the other week was certainly something and some of her play vs osaka in the final was astonishing.

This stuff is a gimmick -- as the one proper doubles pairing won -- but globalised sport is about bums on seats, so its here to stay until ppl get bored.

I play so much tennis now, I've been slowly working my way back to watching it. Big deal here that Felix won today. Felt like a lot of unforced errors and double-faults, but also that he could pull out a big first serve whenever he wanted to. (Can I love watching a sport without complicated statistics? I think so...)

Is there a tennis term for the psychological challenge of maintaining momentum from winning one set into the next one? I feel like I see this all the time, like it's hard not to get a little relaxed, lose a little focus, when you've just come off winning a set.

Don't know if the comparison scans to me. Djoko still has the timing of the shots, a great serve, the incredible returns and intelligence but he just doesn't have the legs and stamina.

As I say, just getting back into watching tennis, so I'll defer to you on that; but I'd almost guarantee Dylan wasn't.
