whenever i see a thread titled "best ___ of 2002," i always think "oh it's way too early for that. the year's nowhere near over." now it almost IS over and i barely noticed. but it still feels like it's not fair to ask "best ____ of 2002" until jan. 1, 2003."

let us all ponder on the fleeting nature of time, and how it feels like a cheat.

1. I hate time.
2. Best of 2002 lists really shouldn't be made until about April next year, but I doubt I'll be able to help myself.

Instead, can we do best of 2001 lists until about mid-December? Because I wasn't here to do them last year.

I *think* I'm ready to start on a best of 1994 list.

I have been doing pick-of-the-year C90s for my pals every year for over a decade now, but may miss this year because almost everything I want to include is on CD, and my CD player is, to get a bit technical for a moment, fucked. I am too short of cash right now to buy a new one, I think. I can play them on my computer, but my computer lacks a cassette drive. I don't have a CD burner either. I suspect most of my friends can happily live without them anyway - I kind of assume that they play them once and never again.

ILX end-of-year poll is launching this weekend or next week.

Can't you run a cable from your computers sound output to a line in on your amplifier?

RickyT (RickyT), Thursday, 28 November 2002 13:25 (twenty-three years ago)

You can get a 1.5mm to line adaptorZ for about 3.25. About. I've got one.

''ILX end-of-year poll is launching this weekend or next week.''

and I'm glad to be out of the country by then.

Argh, I have 56 minutes to decide what to vote for in the Festive 50 and I can't decide and I have to vote because otherwise I'll be annoyed at myself if the rundown is as boring as last year's (whereas if I do vote I get to be annoyed at the rest of the country for not voting as wisely as ME, oh yes, I rock, all hail my shit taste in music, etc).

And I have to vote so I can vote for Atvope by Setzer even though it'll be the only vote it gets *sob* and actually maybe it would be more sensible to vote for the Notwist or Capitol K or someone. I suppose Pillow isn't eligible since I don't think it got changed for the XL releases, though.

It's been almost totally rubbish every year for ages, Rebecca. I have lost interest completely. Also, the stuff I would want to vote for has zero chance - pop, R&B, hip hop and drum & bass have made little impression on the Festive Fifty over the years.
