Outside In, Too - Films of Substance: The ILX film poll for 2024 viewings voting thread: Ballots due 23rd October

Assuming that we have all finally managed to catch up on one (1) 2024 film via streaming and don't anticipate fitting in any more...

Voting is NOW OPEN for the ILX 2024 film poll: things that came out somewhere, in some format, for the first time, are eligible. If they only came out in your local park's summer outdoor screening season in 2024, and everywhere else some other time, you will probably want to make your case to the elctorate, though.

Send ballots to i l x polls ter [at] g ma il [dot] c o m by October 23rd, by which time I expect to have reset the password and been able to access votes.

MAXIMUM 35 votes
MINIMUM 7 votes

Votes are weighted. Please send your lists with your TOP choice at the TOP, but do not number your choices. (It's very annoying for formatting.) (Pollrunner reserves the right to completely change the order of your list if you ignore this every year.)

If you're voting for a non-English-speaking film that has a commonly-accepted English title, by all means include the original title in brackets, but please type the English title first. (This is also to help with tallying, and does not otherwise reflect the poll's stylebook.)

Questions and campaigning are both welcome ITT. Complaints about placement or non-placement in the results thread will be scorned if you didn't make any case, or passing mention, here. Feel free to spread this thread or the voting instructions to friends, strangers and poorly-lit zoom discussion groups.

I've put together a rough ballot, will look at it for a couple of days to see if I need to reorder anything, then send.

Noob Layman (WmC), Friday, 17 October 2025 14:49 (three weeks ago)

Sent mine too, nowhere near 35 entries tbh

I know time is weird these days but that only came out three weeks ago.

fall of the house of urrsher (sic), Monday, 20 October 2025 08:44 (two weeks ago)

36! Considering cutting Hard Truths as it wasn't released in the UK until 2025.

fall of the house of urrsher (sic), Monday, 20 October 2025 18:22 (two weeks ago)

I'll send mine as soon as I get home.

The Luda of Suburbia (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 20 October 2025 18:31 (two weeks ago)

sent a ballot. Hard Truths is 2025 to me but i included it, will happily do so again next year if allowed! as it is one of the best movies ever made.

moral ziosk (geoffreyess), Tuesday, 21 October 2025 03:44 (two weeks ago)

Some movies marked as 2023 on Letterboxd that I will likely vote for because they didn't open near me until 2024: The Teachers' Lounge, His Three Daughters, Janet Planet, The Beast, Red Rooms, Hit Man.

jaymc, Tuesday, 21 October 2025 04:44 (two weeks ago)

I didn’t even parse 2023 because my 2024 xls was so full (cut Hit Man on merit after 52) but won’t lock it in case tallying reminds me of quality

fall of the house of urrsher (sic), Tuesday, 21 October 2025 07:01 (two weeks ago)

Sent.

I've just resubmitted because, well, Red Rooms *needs* to be on my list. Please bin if it's a pain in the arse, sic.

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Tuesday, 21 October 2025 19:34 (two weeks ago)

Sent!

This is 100% too late on my part but campainingwise here's some stuff I voted for that I doubt will get many votes:

India

Merry Christmas - Remake of a 50's French noir that replaces the iciness of the original with lush romanticism. Reminded me of Park Chan Wook at times.
Raayan - Intense actioner. Great use of weather.
Saripodhaa Sanivaaram - As a child the protagonist of this had a short temper, so his mother made him promise: if he gets angry he will wait until Saturday, and if he is still angry on Saturday he will seek justice. Thus the goofiest ruleset since Gremlins is born, and a great time is had.

Hong Kong

Twilight Of The Warriors: Walled In - Potent nostalgia for Hong Kong's golden age; insane wuxia acrobatics. I found the closing titles, featuring Kowloon residents going about their business, quite moving.

South Korea

Victory - The year is 1999 and two girls obsessed with Dance Dance Revolution decide to start a cheerleader club to support their school's terrible football team. Starts with an Once Upon A Time In The West homage.

sent mine. I was pretty loose with films released in the last few weeks of 2023, so if that isn't kosher just omit the offenders

comrade jhøsh (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 22 October 2025 09:05 (two weeks ago)

I voted for Twilight of the Warriors. Heard great things about it from action fans and they were right.

Chris L, Wednesday, 22 October 2025 18:40 (two weeks ago)

Probably won't be tallying until Sunday morning, if any stragglers need a bit longer.

fall of the house of urrsher (sic), Thursday, 23 October 2025 20:38 (two weeks ago)

I voted!

Oops totally missed this this year. But look forward to the rollout.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 6 November 2025 21:54 (three days ago)

I timed balloting for when I expected to have three days of wfh to do a rollout, but instead have been working 70 hours a week, not on my dining table. Send it in, tipsy!

fall of the house of urrsher (sic), Thursday, 6 November 2025 22:05 (three days ago)

At 78, I didn’t expect so.

I didn't vote for My Old Ass. I should have voted for My Old Ass.

I would prefer not to. (Chinaski), Friday, 7 November 2025 22:40 (two days ago)

Very belatedly voted!
