I think that's a really good question, actually! On one hand, if it were me, I would take advantage of the free movies to pick up favorites I don't have in mu collection. But on the other hand, with no cost, it might be a good opportunity to grab a few I've always wanted to see but don't want to blind buy. Or maybe a few titles that fall in the middle. For example, I've seen "Repo Man" and "Trainspotting" and like them both, but I've not seen the 4K transfers or any of the special features. So in a sense they would be both familiar *and* new to me.

Most videos are people talking about movies they like, which is more informative than "oooh i want to see this". OTOH the Barry Jenkins video is entertaining because it's more realistic to the scenario.

Best of both worlds is a box set where they've seen one movie they can talk about.

I don't mind either approach with Criterion, but with the Amoeba 'Whats In My Bag' vids its an instant skip for me if they're picking their favorite canonized records bc no one on earth has anything interesting left to say about Purple Rain, Donuts, OK Computer, etc. Not sure why this doesnt bother me with movies, maybe its just bc the Criterion vids are usually shorter so even if they don't have anything interesting to say about Breathless or Citizen Kane they dont go on for very long.
